Orton, at 6-foot-10 and 255 pounds, was the 29th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic. In 51 career NBA games with Orlando, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia over three seasons, he averaged 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per game.

Earlier this season he appeared in 22 games (four starts) with Philadelphia, averaging 3.0 points and 2.8 rebounds.

He’s also appeared in 31 D-League games over two seasons (New Mexico in 2010-11, Tulsa in 2012-13) with averages of 12.4 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Orton, who played college ball at Kentucky, will join the Red Claws in Iowa prior to Thursday night’s game against the Energy.

Brown spent two seasons at Illinois State, where he appeared in 66 games (63 starts) with career averages of 15.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 30.3 minutes per game.

Melo (7-0, 255) was assigned to the Red Claws last season by the Boston Celtics. He appeared in 33 games (31 starts), averaging 9.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game while being named to the D-League defensive first team and the all-rookie first team.

He was selected 22nd overall by the Celtics in the 2012 draft.

Also, the Red Claws waived forward Romero Osby due to a season-ending shoulder injury sustained Jan. 11 in a road loss to the Bakersfield Jam.

Osby (6-8, 232), the 51st overall selection in the 2013 NBA draft by Orlando, was acquired in a preseason trade with Fort Wayne. In 12 games (all starts) this season for the Red Claws, he averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 27.4 minutes per game.

Additionally, Maine placed Corey Allmond on the inactive list. In 21 games for the Red Claws, Allmond has posted averages of 2.6 points and 1.0 rebounds.
