CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

WHO: Cheverus (10-0) vs. Bonny Eagle (9-1)

WHERE: Fitzpatrick Stadium

WHEN: 11:06 a.m.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cheverus (Joe Fitzpatrick, jr., RB; Zordan Holman, jr., TE/DE; Cody O’Brien, sr., FB/LB) Bonny Eagle (Jon Woods, sr., RB; Isaiah Reynolds, sr., OT/DT; Zach Dubiel, jr., QB)

WHAT CHEVERUS NEEDS TO DO: The Stags are a run first, pass second team and will look to hand off to Fitzpatrick, O’Brien or Liam LaFountain on sweeps, counters and traps. Cheverus will throw when the situation favors it and has a couple of good receivers in the 6-foot-6 Holman and Noah Stebbins. QB Ethan Jordan has an accurate arm and also likes to throw to his backs in the flat. The Stags will look to capitalize on their special teams and win the battle of field position. They also will need to contain Bonny Eagle’s running attack.

WHAT BONNY EAGLE NEEDS TO DO: Bonny Eagle will look to capitalize on its speed and athleticism with its spread offense. The Scots want to get Dubiel and Woods in the open where they can create the most havoc. Dubiel will look to throw to WRs Joe Bissonnette and Ben Malloy. The Scots will try to win the battle up front and have two-way 300-pound tackle Reynolds to help them do it. Defensively, the Scots will look to contain Fitzpatrick, who rushed for over 1,400 yards in the regular season.

CLASS C STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

WHO: Leavitt (10-0) vs. Winslow (9-1)

WHERE: Fitzpatrick Stadium

WHEN: 6:06 p.m.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Leavitt (Nate Coombs, sr., QB/slotback; Nate Rousseau, sr., tailback; Matt Powell, sr., OT/DT) Winslow (Dylan Hapworth, jr., TB; Zach Guptill, sr., FB; Justin Martin, jr., LB.)

WHAT LEAVITT NEEDS TO DO: Leavitt will look to continue to spread the ball around on offense. The Hornets have several game breakers. Four players have rushed for more than 600 yards. The Hornets will look to win the battle in the trenches and slow down runners Hapworth and Guptill.

WHAT WINSLOW NEEDS TO DO: Winslow is a run- oriented team and will look to give the ball to Hapworth and Guptill. The Black Raiders will have to be fundamentally sound in their line play; they will be giving up size to the Hornets. Defensively, Winslow will have to swarm to the ball to offset Leavitt’s offensive balance.

CLASS D STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

WHO: Oak Hill (9-2) vs. Bucksport (10-0)

WHERE: Fitzpatrick Stadium

WHEN: 2:36 p.m.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Oak Hill (Luke Washburn, sr., RB/DE; Kyle Flaherty, jr., RB/DE; Parker Asselin, sr., QB) Bucksport (K.P. Hilaire, jr. DT/LB; Josh Gray, sr., RB/DB. Matt Stewart, jr, QB)

WHAT OAK HILL NEEDS TO DO: The Raiders want to get their gamebreakers in space so they can take advantage of their speed. Other keys will be to limit mistakes, win the battle of field position and continue with their bend but not break defensive play.

WHAT BUCKSPORT NEEDS TO DO: Bucksport will spread the ball around on offense, using multiple sets. The Golden Bucks had five players score touchdowns in their Eastern Maine final. They look to run first but have been successful throwing. Defensively, Bucksport will look to slow Oak Hill’s strong running attack.
