Henry Owens, one of the top prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization, has been promoted to the Portland Sea Dogs from Class A Salem.

Owens, a 6-foot-6 left-hander who turned 21 on July 21, recently had a streak of 19 1/3 hitless innings spanning four starts. He was 8-5 with a 2.92 ERA in 20 starts for Salem, and leads Red Sox minor leaguers with 123 strikeouts in 104 2/3 innings.

Owens is in his second professional season after being drafted 36th overall in 2011 out of Edison High in Huntington Beach, Calif. Last year, he was 12-5 with a 4.87 ERA for Class A Greenville and struck out 130 batters in 101 2/3 innings.
