UMaine pitcher Tommy Lawrence namedECAC Division I pitcher of the year

University of Maine junior Tommy Lawrence was named the ECAC Division I pitcher of the year Tuesday.

Lawrence, a right-hander, went 11-3 with a 2.32 ERA for the Black Bears this season.

He was also named a first-team ECAC All-Star. Maine junior third baseman Eric White was named to the second team.

FCBL: Matt Pagano scored the winning run on a two-out single by Sam Canales in the eighth inning to lift the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (9-9) to a 2-1 win over the Torrington Titans (8-11) at Old Orchard Beach.

Louis Distasio closed the game with three perfect innings of relief to earn the win.

AMERICAN LEGION: Nate Blais went 3 for 4 with a walk and a run to lead New Auburn over Tri-Town 5-1 at Poland.

• Robert Jones went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI, and struck out four in three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win as Staples Crossing (6-1) beat Fayette-Staples (4-3) 13-2 in five innings at South Berwick.

• Derek Neal, Dan Bock and Ben Lawlor had two hits apiece to lead Saco Bay PUT to an 8-5 win over Bonanza at York.

JUNIOR LEGION: Brandon Dyer threw a three-hitter, and Caleb Chambers and Eliot Deservenes hit solo homers for the Lyman Eagles in an 8-2 win over visiting Cumberland.

NECBL: Sam Balzano went 2 for 3 with a walk and scored to pace the visiting Sanford Mainers (7-9) in a 7-3 loss against the New Bedford Bay Sox (6-12).


NPSL: Ben Havey scored the winner with 15 minutes left  as the Seacoast Mariners (2-2-2) used three unanswered goals to rally for a 3-2 win over the New Hampshire Phantoms (2-3-1) at Lewiston.

Trailing 2-0, Michael Bloom opened the scoring for the Mariners in the 35th minute and Iain Eldridge tied it seven minutes later.
