SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Two goals by Notre Dame’s Bryan Rust in the last two minutes Saturday led the Fighting Irish to a 3-2 Hockey East victory Saturday night over Maine.
Rust tied the game with 1:08 left, then stayed on the ice through the next faceoff and struck again for the game-winning goal with 43 seconds left.
Ben Hutton had given Maine a 2-1 lead with a power play goal in the second period. Until Rust scored, Maine goaltender Martin Ouellette turned back a barrage of Notre Dame shots. He had 39 saves, tying a career high.
Cam Brown scored Maine¹s other goal. T.J. Tynan scored a power play goal for Notre Dame.
Maine returns home to face Merrimack twice next weekend in Orono.
