Wells football downs Cape Elizabeth 21-7

CAPE ELIZABETH – Gavin Snapp and Drew Shelley scored third quarter touchdowns to break open a tie game and lead Wells to a 21-7 win over Cape Elizabeth in a Western Maine Conference Class B football game played Friday night at Hannaford Field.
 
The two third-quarter scores came on back-to-back possessions. Snapp reached pay dirt a quarterback sneak to give the Warriors a 14-7 advantage. Shelley scored on a 33-yard run to make it 21-7.
 
The two teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter. Dante Fanning scored on a two-yard run to give Wells, the defending Class B state champions, a 7-0 lead.
 
Cape Elizabeth tied the game at 7-7 in the waning moments of opening half when Connor Maguire scored on a 10-yard run.
