RUMFORD — Maranacook junior Matt Delmar won the Class B boys slalom title Friday afternoon at Black Mountain, but Yarmouth rallied to win both the alpine and overall skiing state championships.

The Clippers entered the day leading Maranacook by nine points in the alpine competition, but saw two skiers fall in the first of two slalom runs. Had those standings held through the second run, Maranacook would have won alpine.

Instead, Yarmouth’s Tucker Grout, Matt Highland, Luke Lockwood and Matthew Woodbury all finished among the top 20 to edge Cape Elizabeth by a point, 37-38, as Maranacook faded to third when one of its top four skiers straddled a gate and was forced to hike back up the course.

Unofficially, Yarmouth won the boys alpine title 74-105 over Maranacook and the overall crown 114-185, also over Maranacook.

In the girls slalom, Mt. Abram junior Elise Luce repeated as individual champion and nearly led her squad to a one-point victory in alpine over Yarmouth, which entered the day trailing by six in alpine competition.

Unofficial results showed Mt. Abram winning by a point, but a disqualification of Presque Isle’s Emma Bartlett for straddling a gate resulted in Yarmouth sharing the alpine title with Mt. Abram.

Yarmouth cruised to the overall girls title, 138-259, over Maranacook, with Mt. Abram third at 271.
