College Connections: A special new year for Gillies

Wentworth Institute of Technology junior guard Derek Mayo of Casco (Lake Region) is averaging 12.1 points and a team-high 5.0 rebounds for the Leopards (9-6, 5-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Mayo's senior teammate, Corey Theriault of Auburn (Edward Little), recently became the 13th Wentworth Institute player to reach 1,000 career points.


Saint Michael's College senior Andrew Marshall of Kittery (St. Thomas Aquinas of Dover, N.H.) made the Northeast-10 weekly honor roll for the third time this season after posting eight top-three finishes in three dual meets, including wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle against Bentley and the 500-yard free against College of Saint Rose. Marshall has a team-high nine wins, including eight in individual events.

Saint Michael's sophomore Nathan Paluso of Windham was second in the 100 breaststroke against Bentley and second in the 100 free against LeMoyne.

Wheaton College freshman Daniel Spencer of North Yarmouth (Greely) was part of three-race wins in Wheaton (Mass.) College's recent rout of Clark. Spencer won the 100-yard butterfly, and helped win the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.


Catherine Tierney of Cape Elizabeth, a first-year swimmer for Saint Michael's College, was part of a winning 400-yard free relay team and took second in the 1,000 freestyle in a recent meet against the College of Saint Rose. She also placed second in the 1,000 against LeMoyne.
