After picking up his first two wins of the season last Saturday night at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H., Joey Doiron heads to Quebec as the hottest driver on the Pro All Star Series North tour for Super Late Models.

Doiron, a 21-year-old driver from Berwick who has been on top of the regional racing tour points standings for much of the season, was a runner-up on six of his seven previous PASS North starts until he swept two 150-lap races at the New Hampshire track.

“It took us so long to get a win, and it was neat to get two wins in one night,” he said. “Hopefully it will jump-start us to get a couple of more wins with three races to go (in the season).”

Saturday night, Doiron will drive one of the 28 cars entered in the Thunder Valley 200 at the Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee Jonction, Quebec.

Doiron recalled what happened Aug. 6, the last time he ran on a quarter-mile banked oval. “I was running fifth with four laps to go and I ended up 15th with half a body left on my car,” he said.

D.J. Shaw of Center Conway, N.H., won that 150-lap race.

Saturday night’s winner will pick up $10,000, plus there’s a guaranteed $20,000 in lap leader money available.

“It’s worth a lot of money and there are championships involved,” said Travis Benjamin, the TD Bank 250 winner from Morrill. “It’s going to be a survivor’s race. It’s a fast track and stuff happens.”

The race also is the final leg of the Autobus LaQuebecoise Triple Crown, a separate championship comprised of the races at Chaudiere with a bonus point fund totaling over $30,000.

It also is the fourth of five races in the PASS national series, so a contingent of drivers from North Carolina are coming north to race in it.

TRACK CHAMPIONS from Beech Ridge Motor Speedway will be feted at a Nov. 15 banquet at the Holiday Inn By The Bay.

The 10 top finishers in the four NASCAR Nites racing divisions will be honored.

Mike Rowe, a veteran driver from Turner, claimed his second championship in four seasons in Pro Series, the top racing division at the Scarborough track.

Last Saturday night, Donnie Morse won the final race of the season to capture his second consecutive title in the Sports Series. The veteran driver from Naples now has won four championships in the division,

Cole Watson of Naples won his second title in Wildcats. Previously he won three championships in the track’s truck division.

Brandon Barker, a teenager from Windham, won his first Roadrunner title.

ROOKIE DRIVER Travis Stearns of Auburn became the 14th qualifier for the fifth annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational on Sept. 21 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., by pulling out his first career win in the Late Model racing series last Sunday in the Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road in Barre, Vt.

Stearns moved into the lead on a restart on Lap 117 and held off eight-time ACT champion Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., for the final 83 laps.

The win enabled Stearns to take a firmer grip on sixth place in the regional racing tour’s standings.
