Barefoot on the Brook Trail

10 a.m. in West Rockport

The Georges River Land Trust is offering its popular "Turtle Walk" for kids and grandparents on the beautiful Thorndike Brook Trail section of the Georges Highland Path. Land trust staff will lead the two-hour turtle walk, so-called because it is slow, easy and barefoot. The walk is free but registration is required. Call 594-5166.

Vernal Pool Conservation

7:30 p.m. in Lovell

Dr. Aram J.K. Calhoun, director of the Ecology & Environmental Sciences Program at the University of Maine, will give a talk at the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library about vernal pool conservation and regulation, and how land trusts, municipalities and individuals can become involved in these efforts. The Greater Lovell Land Trust is also holding a guided hike from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday as a follow-up to Wednesday's talk. Meet at the library to carpool to a local pool. Summer Explorations

10 a.m. Aug. 10, in Bath

As part of the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust's "Summer Explorations" series, illustrator David Wheeler will guide participants in sketching the Maine coast. Join other naturalists at the Thorne Head Preserve in Bath. Come enjoy the tranquility of the forest and water views of Whiskeag Creek and the Kennebec River, as Wheeler shares interesting artifacts, fossils, and facts. No cost.
