Girls' Soccer Roundup: Biddeford gets opening win

BIDDEFORD - Keely Gendron scored with 11 seconds remaining to give Biddeford a 3-2 victory over Noble in an SMAA girls' soccer season opener Friday.

Gendron finished off a pass from Brooke Thompson, who beat two defenders.

Peyton Janelle scored in the first half and Maddy Cantara converted a free kick in the second half for Biddeford.

Gabby Reil and Taylor Mallett scored for Noble, and Shaylee Ashburn stopped 17 shots.

SCARBOROUGH 4, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Sarah Martens scored twice and Kate Daniels had a goal and an assist to lead the Red Storm to a win at Scarborough.

Hadlee Yescott also scored and Sam Sparda had two assists. Sydney Martin stopped three shots for the shutout.

Emma Russell made 12 saves for South Portland.

DEERING 2, MASSABESIC 0: Alexis Elowitch and Simone Lauture scored first-half goals to lead the Rams to a win at Portland.

LeeAnn Downs made six saves for the shutout.

CHEVERUS 6, MCAULEY 0: Darby Rawcliffe and Abby Maker each had two goals as the visiting Stags handled the Lions at Portland.

Sadie Lyons and Eden Munson also scored, and Hannah Tyson stopped four shots.

Molly Miller made 14 saves for McAuley.

MARSHWOOD 1, KENNEBUNK 1: Abby Hyson scored the tying goal early in the second half as Marshwood earned a draw at Kennebunk.

THORNTON ACADEMY 10, BONNY EAGLE 0: Amanda Arnold scored four goals and Haley DaGraca added two for the Golden Trojans, who built a 7-0 halftime lead at Standish.

YARMOUTH 2, NYA 0: Tess Merrill scored two first-half goals for the Clippers in a win over the visiting Panthers.

Scout Fishman finished with 24 saves for NYA. Yarmouth keeper Shannon Fallon needed just two saves for the shutout.

WAYNFLETE 1, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Arianna Giguere scored on a through ball from Isabel Agnew in the 39th minute to lift the Flyers over the Hawks at Portland.

Waynflete keeper Katie Duvall made five saves. Emily Colbert stopped 11 shots for Sacopee Valley.

OCEANSIDE 2, MEDOMAK VALLEY 0: Makenna Brooks scored both goals to lead the Mariners to a win at Waldoboro.

Brittany Rytky assisted on the second goal.

RICHMOND 2, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1: Amber Loon and Sadie Gosse scored a goal apiece as the Bobcats edge the Seagulls at Richmond.

Gosse also set up Loon's goal with a corner kick.

Anna Foss scored for Old Orchard Beach, and Haley Plante had six saves.

GARDINER 8, LINCOLN ACADEMY 1: Ally Day scored five goals as the Tigers cruised past the Eagles at Gardiner.

Kylee Granholm, Katie Owen and Morgan Carver each added a goal.

Ali Gorrill scored for Lincoln.

ERSKINE ACADEMY 6, SKOWHEGAN 1: Avery Bond scored a pair of goals and had an assist as the Eagles downed the Indians at Skowhegan.

Kelly McCormack added a goal and two assists.

Skowhegan keeper Andrea Quirion made 24 saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

FALMOUTH 3, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Dayna Vasconcelos scored in the first half, and Jillian Rothweiler and Zuleika Scott each added second-half goals to lead the Yachtsmen (2-0) past the Capers (1-1) at Cape Elizabeth.

Falmouth goalie Hillary Nash stopped three shots. Julianne Ayers finished with six saves for Cape Elizabeth.

FREEPORT 3, WAYNFLETE 0: Dayze Gaulin scored midway through the first half to start the Falcons (1-1) on their way to a win over the Flyers (1-1) at Freeport.

Hannah Williams added a goal in the final 10 minutes, and Olivia Bubar scored off a penalty corner with one minute remaining.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1, YORK 0: Courtney Bartlett scored from Ellen Bacchiochi less than four minutes into the game to give the Raiders (2-0) the edge over the Wildcats (1-1) at Fryeburg.
