BALTIMORE – Beth Spoehr pitched a two-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts as Maine beat Maryland-Baltimore County 4-1 Saturday in the first game of an America East softball doubleheader.

The Black Bears (10-19, 2-0 America East) completed the sweep when Lindsey Jenkins scored on an error in the seventh inning against the Retrievers (14-11, 0-2) for a 6-5 victory.

SMCC SWEEPS VERMONT TECH: Kim Hunt pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks, and Shelby Moore had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Seawolves to an 8-0 win over the Knights in the opener at South Portland.

Hunt also earned the win in Game 2, pitching a three-hitter as the Seawolves cruised to a 7-1 win.

UNE SWEEPS EASTERN NAZARENE: Casey Brigham drove in three runs and scored twice, and Erin Lyons struck out four while pitching a five-hitter to lead the Nor’easters (9-5, 4-0 Commonwealth Coast) to a 9-1 win over the Lions (6-10, 4-2) in the opener at Biddeford.

UNE downed the Lions 11-2 in the second game, as Allison Frazier and Beth Smith each had two hits and two RBI.

EMERSON SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH’S: Lissa Pappas singled home the winning run in the seventh inning as the Lions (6-8, 2-0 GNAC) completed a sweep of the Monks (7-5, 0-2) with an 11-10 victory at Boston after winning the opener, 7-6.

Danyelle Shufelt had five hits, and Connie Grovo and Jill Howard each homered for St. Joseph’s in the second game.

BASEBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS NEW JERSEY CITY: Todd Keneborus hit a two-run single in a five-run eighth inning to lead the Monks (5-7) to a 9-4 win over the Gothic Knights (2-10) in the opener at Jersey City, N.J.

Keneborus and Alex Lorenc each finished with three hits and drove in two runs.

Keneborus added two hits and three RBI as the Monks completed the sweep with a 6-3 win.

ST. PETER’S 7, MAINE 5: The Black Bears rallied after trailing 7-1 entering the seventh inning but scored just once despite loading the bases in the ninth as the Peacocks (5-13) held on at Jersey City, N.J.

Maine’s Colin Gay had two RBI.

MAINE 4, FARLEIGH DICKINSON 1: Ian Leisenheimer hit a three-run triple to lead Maine (7-16) over the Knights (4-12) at Jersey City, N.J.

COLBY, PLYMOUTH STATE SPLIT: Connor Sullivan gave up one run on six hits and Jake Kramer had an RBI single during a two-run fifth inning to lift the Mules (5-7) to a 2-1 win over the Panthers (3-7) in the first game at Fort Myers, Fla.

The Panthers responded with a 10-8 win in the second game.

BATES 15, SALEM STATE 2: Noah Lynd had three hits with two doubles and three RBI, and the Bobcats (5-7) broke open the game with six runs in the third inning against the Vikings (4-8) at Salem, Mass.

Karl Alexander gave up three hits in six scoreless innings for the win.

USM 13, BENEDICTINE 6: Mike Eaton had a grand slam to lift the Huskies (9-5) over the Eagles (6-6) at Auburndale, Fla.

Josh Mackey added three hits, including a double, and three RBI. Forrest Chadwick and Tucker White each had three hits and an RBI.

BRIARCLIFFE SWEEPS SMCC: Scott Madden doubled in each game for the Seawolves (6-11), who lost 16-0 and 12-4 to the Bulldogs (9-7) at Holbrook, N.Y.

MEN’S LACROSSE

AMHERST 13, BOWDOIN 10: Devin Acton scored five goals as the Jeffs (5-1, 2-1 NESCAC) downed the Polar Bears (2-3, 0-3) at Brunswick.

TRINITY 6, COLBY 5: Kevin Looby scored two goals as the Bantams (5-0, 3-0 NESCAC) held off Colby (3-3, 1-2) at Waterville.

BATES 12, WESLEYAN 7: Gary Guinta scored four goals to lead the Bobcats (3-3, 1-2 NESCAC) over the Cardinals (6-1, 2-1) at Lewiston.

WNEC 15, UNE 1: Dan O’Gorman scored for the Nor’easters (2-6, 0-3 Commonwealth Coast) against Western New England (5-2, 4-0) at Biddeford.

CASTLETON STATE 10, USM 4: Tim Bryant and Kayle Hamilton each had two goals for the Huskies (2-3) against the Spartans (1-4) at Castleton, Vt.

HUSSON 14, ST. JOSEPH’S 3: Ben Landry scored six goals to pace the Eagles (1-6) past the Monks (4-4) at Bangor.
