DURHAM, N.H. – New Hampshire opened the second half with a 12-2 run and held off the University of Maine for a 57-40 victory Wednesday night in an America East Conference women’s basketball game.

After the Wildcats (9-18, 6-9 America East) turned a 20-16 halftime edge into a 32-18 lead, the Black Bears (4-23, 2-13) never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Katelyn Vanderhoff scored all of her 12 points in the second half and added three steals for Maine, which shot just 28.3 percent (15 of 53). Ashleigh Roberts had a team-high seven rebounds.

Lauren Wells and Jill McDonald each scored 10 for UNH, and Denise Beliveau had 12 rebounds with nine points.

(3) BAYLOR 75, KANSAS STATE 48: Brittney Griner scored 21 of her 26 points in the first half and Baylor (25-2, 12-1 Big 12) bounced back from a loss to Texas Tech to beat Kansas State (18-8, 8-5) at Waco, Texas.

(6) XAVIER 67, GEORGE WASHINGTON 41: Amber Harris scored 23 points, leading Xavier (24-2, 12-0 Atlantic-10) to a victory over George Washington (8-19, 3-10) at Cincinnati.

LOUISVILLE 68, (7) DEPAUL 55: Monique Reid scored 28 points and Louisville (18-10, 9-5 Big East) shut down visiting DePaul (25-4, 12-2) for an upset win.

(18) GEORGETOWN 67, PITTSBURGH 57: Sugar Rodgers scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half and Georgetown (21-7, 9-5 Big East) snapped a two-game skid with a victory over visiting Pittsburgh (13-14, 5-9).

BASEBALL

TEXAS-DALLAS 6, BATES 5: Kyle Guest’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th gave Texas-Dallas (5-2) a victory over Bates (1-2) at Richardson, Texas.

The Bobcats scored twice in the ninth to force extra innings, getting an RBI double by Pat Murphy and a run-scoring single by Chris Burke.

Murphy and Burke each had two RBI and Rich Velotta scored three runs for Bates.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

(1) DUKE 78, (24) TEMPLE 61: Kyle Singler scored 28 points to lead Duke (26-2) past Temple (21-6) at Durham, N.C.

Singler was 10 of 19 from the floor as he helped Duke win its 35th straight game at Cameron and its 86th in a row against nonconference teams, both NCAA bests.

(7) BYU 84, COLORADO STATE 76: Jimmer Fredette scored 34 points and Brandon Davies added 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead BYU (26-2, 12-1 Mountain West Conference) over Colorado State (18-9, 8-5) at Provo, Utah.

(8) PURDUE 72, INDIANA 61: JaJuan Johnson had 20 points and nine rebounds to help Purdue (23-5, 12-3 Big Ten) beat Indiana (12-16, 3-12) at Bloomington, Ind.

(9) NOTRE DAME 94, PROVIDENCE 93: Ben Hansbrough scored a career-high 32 points and Tim Abromaitis had a season-high 28 to lead visiting Notre Dame (22-5, 11-4 Big East) over Providence (14-14, 3-12) despite a Big East-record 52 points by Marshon Brooks.

CINCINNATI 58, (11) GEORGETOWN 46: Cincinnati (22-6, 9-6 Big East) held Georgetown (21-7, 10-6) to four field goals in the second half in a win at Washington.

(12) WISCONSIN 53, MICHIGAN 52: Josh Gasser banked in a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Wisconsin (21-6, 11-4 Big Ten) a win over Michigan (17-12, 7-9) at Ann Arbor, Mich.

(19) NORTH CAROLINA 75, N.C. STATE 63: Harrison Barnes scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half to help North Carolina (21-6, 11-2 ACC) beat N.C. State (14-13, 4-9) at Raleigh, N.C.

(20) MISSOURI 77, BAYLOR 59: Laurence Bowers scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, leading Missouri (22-6, 8-5 Big 12) past visiting Baylor (17-10, 6-7).

(21) TEXAS A&M 61, OKLAHOMA 47: Khris Middleton scored 13 points and Texas A&M (22-5, 9-4 Big 12) won its fifth straight, beating Oklahoma (12-15, 4-9) at College Station, Texas.

ARKANSAS 77, (22) KENTUCKY 76: Marcus Britt’s layup in the final minute of overtime lifted Arkansas (17-9, 6-6 SEC) to a win over Kentucky (19-8, 7-6) at Fayetteville, Ark.

(23) ST. JOHN’S 76, DEPAUL 51: Dwight Hardy had 21 points and St. John’s (18-9, 10-5 Big East) dominated DePaul (7-20, 1-14) at New York.
