AMHERST, Mass. – Gerald McLemore scored 12 points to lead Maine to a 68-56 victory over Massachusetts on Wednesday night, snapping the Black Bears’ four-game losing streak.

Terrance Mitchell and Malachi Peay scored 10 points each for Maine (3-5), and UMass (7-2) shot just 29.5 percent from the field (18 of 61) to drop its second straight game after opening with seven straight wins.

Troy Barnies added 10 rebounds for Maine.

UMass’ Anthony Gurley, who entered the game averaging 21.4 points, was held to 12.

ST. JOSEPH’S 84, JOHNSON & WALES 80: Chris Petzy scored a career-high 31 points as the Monks (5-1, 2-0 GNAC) defeated the Wildcats (3-4, 1-1) in double overtime at Standish.

Tyler Kelley added 19 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Zach O’Brien closed with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

THOMAS 81, COLBY 80: Jarrad DeVaughn scored 25 points as the visiting Terriers (3-4) beat the White Mules (4-4) at Waterville.

Colby’s Mike Russell had with 19 points and 21 rebounds. Andrew Duncanson had 14 points and seven rebounds for Thomas.

BATES 86, UM-FORT KENT 75: Alex Gallant scored a career-high 28 points and tied his career high for rebounds with 11 as the Bobcats (7-1) downed the Bengals (7-4) at Lewiston.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S 62, UM-FARMINGTON 32: Abby Young scored 13 points and Megan McDevitt chipped in 11 as the Monks (5-3) routed the Beavers (1-5) at Standish.

Alyssa Grigware added 10 points, Ashley Geel had 12 rebounds and Mackenzie Dufour had six assists for the Monks.

USM 89, SALEM STATE 67: Kaylie DeMillo scored 24 points as the Huskies (4-4) handled the Vikings (1-4) at Gorham.

DeMillo was 6 of 12 from 3-point range and also had five assists and four rebounds. Courtney Cochran finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds and Renee Nicholas had 17 points.
