WINTER PARK, Fla. – The University of Maine baseball team scored five times in the sixth inning to defeat Georgetown 10-5 in its first game Friday, then lost 5-2 against Rollins in a night game.

Taylor Lewis, Fran Whitten and Alex Calbick each had three hits and Tyler Patzalek had three RBI for the Black Bears (4-11) against the Hoyas (8-7). Jeffrey Gibbs went seven innings and stuck out eight for the win.

Calbick and Joey Martin each had two hits and an RBI against the Tars (15-6).

BATES, BERRY SPLIT: The Bobcats (3-6) scored four runs in the seventh to take a 6-2 win in the opener before losing 6-4 to the Vikings (11-8) in Game 2 at Rome, Ga.

Chris Burke’s two-run single broke a 2-2 tie in the opener.

CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 6, MAINE 3: Jessica Brooks hit a three-run homer with two outs in the seventh to give the Bucs (11-11) a victory over the Black Bears (7-17) at Raleigh, N.C.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

SALVE REGINA 22, UNE 19: Danielle Cate scored five times for UNE (1-2, 0-1 Commonwealth Coast) against Salve Regina (1-2, 1-0) at Middletown, R.I.

TRACK AND FIELD

BATES: Senior Chris Murtagh earned All-American status with a fifth-place finish in the 35-pound weight throw at the NCAA Division III championships at Columbus, Ohio.

 

MAINE: Riley Masters advanced to finals of the mile at the NCAA Division I championships at College Station, Texas.
