The Super Late Model drivers of the PASS North tour will end nearly four weeks of inactivity with two 150-lap races Saturday at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H. One of the races is the makeup of an Aug. 4 event that was rained out, and the other already was on the schedule.

“It’s going to be an interesting weekend, for sure,” said reigning PASS North champion Travis Benjamin of Morrill. “I’m going to take it one race at a time. We’re going to try to win the first race and not worry about the second race.”

A driver could pick up as many as 250 points Saturday. It could be a bonanza in a racing division where only five points separate the top three drivers.

Racing at the northern New Hampshire track will start at 4 p.m. Saturday with a 40-lap PASS North Modifieds race. The first 150-lap race for the Super Late Models is expected to start at 4:30 p.m.

The regular racing program at White Mountain Motorsports Park will start at 6 p.m., followed by qualifying heats and finals in PASS North Modifieds and Super Late Models.

“We’ve never tried to run twin 150s before,” said PASS North President Tom Mayberry. “We just figured it would make more sense not to make the drivers go up there twice.”

On Aug. 6, the last time the Super Late Models ran, DJ Shaw, the son of former NASCAR driver Dale Shaw, won a 150-lap race on the quarter-mile banked track at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee Jonction, Quebec, topping a field that included Sprint Cup driver Kyle Busch.

JOEY POLEWARCZYK of Hudson, N.H., will have to wait until Sept. 1 to resume his pursuit of Wayne Helliwell Jr. for the top spot in American Canadian Tour’s Late Model standings.

With two events left on the schedule, Helliwell holds a 36-point lead over Joey Pole, as he’s known.

Polewarcyzk pulled seven points closer to the leader with his second-place finish Saturday night in a 200-lap race at the Circuit Riverside Speedway in Ste. Croix, Quebec. He could have gotten even closer, but Helliwell, who finished eighth among 28 cars, picked up 10 bonus points for leading 74 laps.

Racing resumes next week with a 200-lap race at the Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, Vt.

IT LOOKS like veteran driver Mike Rowe of Turner will just have to stay out of trouble and run near the front Saturday night to capture his second Pro Series championship at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.

Going into the final night of racing in the top four divisions at the three-eighth-mile track, Rowe, a 63-year-old driver who won his first title at Beech Ridge in 2009, holds a 15-point lead over Dan McKeague, a driver from Gorham who won the track championship in 2010.

Points races in the other three divisions are too close to call.

In the Sports Series, Garrett Hall of Scarborough holds an eight-point lead over Sally Gherardi of Gorham.

In Wildcats, Cole Watson of Naples has a six-point lead over Lewis Anderson of Hollis.

In Road Runners, David Turner of Buxton and Shawn Brackett of Scarborough are both within 13 points of Brandon Barker of Windham.
