High School Roundup: Bonny Eagle breaks a tie, wins field hockey opener

GORHAM - Lexis Lambert scored from just in front with 12:32 left Thursday, lifting Bonny Eagle to a 2-1 victory against Gorham in a Southern Maine Activities Association field hockey opener.

The Scots took a 1-0 lead on Cassidy Merrill's direct shot a minute into the second half, but Darcie Brown countered for Gorham seven minutes later.

Ashlyn Wintle made six saves for Bonny Eagle.

Patty Smith had nine for Gorham.

CHEVERUS 4, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Staci Swallow scored twice during a four-goal second half as Cheverus won an opener at Portland.

After Alex Logan gave the Stags a 1-0 lead 9:34 into the second, Swallow and Emily Rodrigue scored two minutes apart midway through the half. Swallow knocked in the final score with 2:49 left.

SKOWHEGAN 5, MT. ARARAT 0: Sarah Finnemore scored twice, and Allie Lancaster had a goal and an assist as the Indians broke away from a 0-0 halftime tie in an opener at Topsham.

KENNEBUNK 2, BIDDEFORD 0: Maya Schulert had a goal and an assist as the Rams captured an opener at Kennebunk.

WESTBROOK 4, NOBLE 0: Sarah Hopkins scored two early goals and Westbrook went on to win an opener at North Berwick.

MASSABESIC 5, PORTLAND 1: Jackie Guillemette scored two goals, and Bailey Ohman had a goal and an assist for Massabesic in an opener at Portland.

MT. VIEW 2, MT. BLUE 0: Braley Leadbetter scored from Abby Stubbs five minutes before the half, and Brittany Masessa added an unassisted goal with seven minutes left in the game as the Mustangs won an opener at Thorndike.

SCARBOROUGH 10, MCAULEY 0: Ellen Walker scored twice as the Red Storm captured an opener at Scarborough.
