WINTHROP - Boothbay Region rolled up 424 yards rushing Friday night and posted a 47-18 victory against Winthrop in a Western Class C football game.
"I told (Boothbay Coach Bryan Dionne) before the game that's the best 1-4 team in the conference," Winthrop Coach Joel Stoneton said.
The Seahawks (2-4) led 14-12 at the half but kept pounding away at the smaller Ramblers (2-4) and scored twice in the third quarter.
"Our line was just great," said Kameron Markee, who rushed for 119 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns for Boothbay.
Cormac Miller scored on the third play of the second half, breaking off tackle on a counter and running 63 yards untouched to make it 21-12.
"When they came at us power-wise, we stopped reading our keys," Stoneton said.
Miller finished with 162 yards on nine carries, four of those counters. He scored twice, and Jason Maddox also scored on a 31-yard counter for Boothbay.
The Ramblers took a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter when Jared Hanson hit Dakota Carter a on a 4-yard slant. After the Seahawks tied it, Winthrop scored again on a drive set up by Tyler Stockford's fumble recovery. The drive was capped when Hanson hit Mario Meucci in the right corner of the end zone and Meucci did a nice job keeping his feet inbounds.
