Maine Colleges: Bowdoin blanks Colby in women's soccer

WATERVILLE - Morgan Woodhouse and Alexa Yurick scored second-half goals as Bowdoin beat Colby 2-0 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women's soccer match Saturday.

Bridget McCarthy made five saves for the Polar Bears (8-1, 4-1 NESCAC) against the Mules (5-3, 2-3).

UNE 3, SALVE REGINA 0: Margaret Palmer had two goals and an assist to augment a 12-save performance by Samantha Guyette as the Nor'easters (5-8, 3-2 Commonwealth Coast) defeated the Seahawks (7-5-1, 2-2-1) at Biddeford.

Katy Marshall also scored.

USM 1, PLYMOUTH STATE 0: Amy Jose's goal in the 76th minute gave the Huskies (2-9, 1-3 Little East) a win over the Panthers (2-9, 0-4) at Gorham.

ST. JOSEPH'S 2, NORWICH 0: Jodi Pollack scored two first-half goals 35 seconds apart to propel the Monks (5-4-1, 2-4-1 GNAC) past the Cadets (4-6-2, 2-4-2) at Northfield, Vt.

WESLEYAN 3, BATES 1: Kerry Doyle assisted on goals by Mikaela Curtin and Laura Kurash as the Cardinals (4-4-1, 2-4) took a 2-1 halftime lead against the Bobcats (2-6-1, 1-5-1) at Lewiston.

Julia Rice gave Bates the lead at 20:15 of the first half.

UMAINE-MACHIAS 4, SMCC 1: Michela Desjardins scored for the Seawolves (5-5, 4-3 YSCC) in a loss to the Clippers (6-3, 4-1) at Cape Elizabeth.

MEN'S SOCCER

BOWDOIN 2, COLBY 0: Eddie Jones scored 8:45 into the game, and the Polar Bears (7-1-1, 3-1-1 NESCAC) went on to defeat the Mules (3-4-2, 0-3-2) at Waterville.

Eric Goitia converted a penalty kick 14 minutes into the second half.

ST. JOSEPH'S 2, NORWICH 1: Ross Suleski headed in a cross from Garrett Darnell with 5:01 left in the second overtime to lift the Monks (5-6-2, 3-3-1 GNAC) over the Cadets (7-4-1, 4-2-1) at Northfield, Vt.

Jack Lafreniere pulled St. Joseph's even in the 81st minute, ending the Cadets' 460-minute shutout streak.

UNE 2, SALVE REGINA 0: Sean Goodrich put in a header as the Nor'easters (6-6, 2-3 Commonwealth Coast) beat the Seahawks (9-3-1, 4-1) at Biddeford.

UNE got help from an own goal in the 12th minute. Aidan McParland finished with nine saves for the shutout.

PLYMOUTH STATE 1, USM 0: Former USM player Adam Groves headed home a goal with 4:29 remaining to give the Panthers (5-7, 2-2 Little East) a win against the Huskies (3-9, 1-3) at Plymouth, N.H.

WESLEYAN 2, BATES 0: Chris Kuehn and Noah Schlesinger scored in the first half to lead the Cardinals (6-1-2, 4-1-1 NESCAC) past the Bobcats (2-6-1, 0-6-1) at Lewiston.

UMAINE-MACHIAS 4, SMCC 3: The Clippers scored four goals in the second half to beat the Seawolves (8-4) at Cape Elizabeth.

SMCC led 2-0 at halftime on goals from Matt McClure and Jacob Smith.

FIELD HOCKEY

MAINE 2, FAIRFIELD 1: Zoe Adkins flipped a rebound into the back of the cage 3:32 into overtime to give the Black Bears (8-5, 2-0 America East) a victory over the Stags (7-7, 0-2) at Orono.

Hannah Keating put Maine ahead in the first half.

BOWDOIN 3, COLBY 0: Cathleen Smith had two goals and an assist, and Katie Riley added a goal and an assist to lead the Polar Bears (8-1, 4-1 NESCAC) past the Mules (4-5, 0-5) at Waterville.

ST. JOSEPH'S 2, THOMAS 0: Amanda Celeta and Meghan Williams scored in the first eight minutes to lift the Monks (7-4, 4-2 NAC) over the Terriers (4-8, 2-4) at Waterville.

SALVE REGINA 2, UNE 1: Brittany Liptak had the lone goal for the Nor'easters (5-6, 2-2 Commonwealth Coast) in a loss to the Seahawks (7-4, 2-2) at Newport, R.I.

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 5, USM 0: Jenna Miedzionowski and Tiffany Richard each had a goal and an assist to help the Corsairs (9-3, 7-0 Little East) beat the Huskies (5-9, 2-5) at Gorham.

WESLEYAN 5, BATES 1: Laura Baran scored for Bates (3-6, 1-5 NESCAC) in a loss to the Cardinals (4-4, 3-3) at Lewiston.
