Maine colleges: Bowdoin names athletic director

From staff reports

Tim Ryan was appointed director of athletics at Bowdoin after a national search.

Ryan, who is a 1998 graduate and a football standout at the school, was interim director for the past nine months.

After a stint in investing and commercial banking, Ryan returned to Bowdoin in 2005 as an assistant football coach. In 2007 he was named associate athletic director for operations, where he managed the department budget, supervised staff, served on numerous college committees, and represented the department on capital and major maintenance projects.

As director of athletics, Ryan, who received his masters degree in higher education administration from Drexel in 2011, will oversee 31 varsity sports, three club sports and general fitness.

He is the son of Marty Ryan, an athletic administrator at Wells and Kennebunk high schools for a combined 30 years, and former executive director of the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
