ORONO – Darryl Partin scored 27 points and D.J. Irving added 23 to lead Boston University’s men’s basketball team over Maine 77-68 on Wednesday night.

The Terriers (6-11, 2-1 America East) trailed 33-27 at halftime, and went on a 15-6 run in the first 3:42 of the second half. Partin’s 3 capped the spurt, giving BU its first lead since 1:45 into the game.

The Terriers shot 57.7 percent from the field in the second half (15 of 26) after going just 11 of 34 in the first (32.4 percent).

Partin shot 6 of 7 from 3-point range, and BU made 12 of 16 long-range shots for the game.

Irving added 10 rebounds and Matt Griffin 10 points for the Terriers.

Gerald McLemore led the Black Bears (8-6, 2-1) with 17 points. Alasdair Fraser added 14 and Justin Edwards had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Maine.

SMCC 74, HOLYOKE CC 72: Joe Jardine hit a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final 15 seconds to lift Southern Maine CC (8-9) over Holyoke CC (1-12) at Holyoke, Mass.

Josh Mackie scored 27 points for the Seawolves, who trailed by five with less than 10 minutes to play. Emmanuel Donalson added 21 points.

(1) SYRACUSE 79, VILLANOVA 66: Dion Waiters scored 20 points in his home city and Syracuse (18-0, 5-0 Big East) topped Villanova (8-9, 1-4) at Philadelphia.

(13) MICHIGAN 66, NORTHWESTERN 64: Trey Burke scored 19 points — including Michigan’s last eight of overtime — to help the Wolverines (14-3, 4-1 Big Ten) hold off Northwestern 11-5, 1-3) at Ann Arbor, Mich.

(25) MARQUETTE 83, ST. JOHN’S 64: Davante Gardner had career bests with 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead Marquette (13-4, 2-2 Big East) over St. John’s (8-8, 2-3) at Milwaukee.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 75, MAINE 34: Alex Young scored 22 points for Boston University (10-6, 3-0 America East) in a rout of the Univeristy of Maine (3-13, 0-3) at Case Gym in Boston.

The Black Bears were led by Ashleigh Roberts’ 15 points. Corinne Wellington pulled down 10 rebounds for Maine.

The Terriers started the game with a 17-6 run that included three 3-pointers. Boston added a 24-0 stretch and finished the half with a 44-12 lead.

SMCC 51, HOLYOKE CC 39: Sophomore point guard Hanna Lyons collected 10 rebounds, made four assists and had seven steals in Southern Maine Community College’s (12-4) win over Holyoke Community College, at Holyoke, Mass.

Emily Bard led the Seawolves with 13 points, all in the second half. Marissa Welch had 10 points and 16 rebounds.

TEXAS 76, (12) TEXAS A&M 71: Chassidy Fussell scored 22 points and Ashley Gayle added 17 as Texas 11-4, 1-2 Big 12) beat Texas A&M (10-4, 1-2) at College Station, Texas, ending an 11-game losing streak to the Aggies.

(16) LOUISVILLE 63, SOUTH FLORIDA 57: Shoni Schimmel scored 16 points and Louisville (14-3, 3-1 Big East) rallied to beat visiting South Florida (9-8, 1-2).

Louisville trailed 47-39 with 10:17 to play.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SACRED HEART 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Alexius Schutt made 31 saves to hold the University of Southern Maine (3-7-2) to a goal in Sacred Heart’s (8-11-1) victory at the USM Ice Arena in Gorham.

Nicole Palazzo scored on the power play 2:04 into the game and Cara Curran made it 2-0 at 10:07.

Christen Hart scored for the Huskies early in the second period. Alex Davis regained the two-goal edge for the visitors with 1:34 left in the second.

Southern Maine’s goaltender Liz Bergstrom had 18 saves.

FOOTBALL

GEORGIA: Saying he’s accomplished all he wanted in his college career, tight end Orson Charles is headed to the NFL.

Charles announced Wednesday he’ll give up his final season of eligibility with the Bulldogs, a decision he said wasn’t all that difficult after he prayed on it and met with a host of advisors, including former NFL coach Tony Dungy.
