Bucksbaum receives honor as Gatorade player of year

Falmouth High junior Caitlin Bucksbaum was named the Gatorade Maine girls' soccer player of the year.

Bucksbaum, a junior midfielder, helped the Yachtsmen (13-4-1) to the state Class B championship in her first season in Maine after transferring from Charlotte, N.C.

Bucksbaum was a Maine Sunday Telegram first-team All-State selection and earned also first-team All-Western Maine Conference recognition.

The award recognizes girls with outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.

Bucksbaum, who has maintained an A average, is a member of her school's environmental action committee, a peer math tutor, a youth soccer coach and a volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House.
