READING, Pa. – Despite not enjoying his best outing, Anthony Ranaudo of the Portland Sea Dogs was in line for his Eastern League-leading eighth win Wednesday night.

He left after six innings with a four-run lead, but it all came apart when the Fightin Phils scored twice in the ninth and once in the 10th for a 9-8 victory.

The final three runs came off Michael Celestino, who allowed five hits, including the winning single by Tyson Gillies that sent Anthony Hewitt racing home.

The Phils tied in the ninth on a wild pitch by Celestino that allowed Albert Cartwright to score from third.

Earlier, the Phils did their damage with four homers, two off Ranaudo. They are the only Eastern League team to take him deep this season.

In his 10 starts against other Eastern League clubs, Ranaudo hasn’t allowed a homer. In three starts against Reading, he’s given up five.

His only loss came May 7 against the Phils, 5-1 at Hadlock Field. Ranaudo allowed five hits and four runs, three earned, over six innings that night.

A week earlier he beat the Phils 7-4 in Reading, allowing one run over 51/3 innings.

He hadn’t allowed a homer since that May 7 game, when Jim Murphy and Derrick Mitchell got him. This time Murphy got him twice.

Ranaudo was coming off his best outing: 13 strikeouts over 72/3 scoreless innings against Bowie last Thursday.

He matched the Sea Dogs’ club record for strikeouts in that one, a figure last reached by Jon Lester in 2005. Tony Saunders set the club record in 1996; A.J. Burnett matched it in 1999.

Murphy snapped his homerless June with a two-run shot in the first that gave Reading a 2-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs batted around in the second off Reading starter Brody Colvin, getting RBI singles from Ryan Dent and Matt Johnson, and a two-run single from Peter Hissey.

Travis Shaw homered to lead off the third, extending the lead to 6-2.

The Sea Dogs made it 8-2 when Tony Thomas walked and scored on a wild pitch, and Dent walked and scored on a double by Matt Johnson.

The Sea Dogs got three more hits over the next seven innings against four pitchers.

The Phils began their comeback with a two-run homer by Tyler Henson in the eighth to pull within 8-6.

They crept closer in the ninth when Sebastian Valle led off with a homer. One out later Cartwright and Edgar Duran hit consecutive singles. Cartwright then scored on a wild pitch.

In the 10th, Anthony Hewitt drew a one-out walk and Valle reached on a single off shortstop Heiker Meneses’ glove. Hewitt scored on Gillies’ single back through the box.

The Phillies finished with four homers, which helped bail out Colvin, who surrendered eight runs in 22/3 innings.

NOTES: Second baseman Chase Utley appeared on a rehab assignment from the Philadelphia Phillies and played eight innings for Reading. He went 0 for 4.
