Maine Colleges: Calbick, Black help Maine get a split

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Alex Calbick and Troy Black each went 3 for 5 with a pair of RBI as the University of Maine baseball team took an 8-3 win in the late game to earn a split with Stony Brook in an America East doubleheader Sunday.

Mike Connolly gave up two runs on four hits while striking out six in seven innings to earn the win for the Black Bears (11-12, 2-1).

In the opener, the Seawolves (6-12, 1-2) broke it open with a four-run seventh inning and went on to win 7-1.

FARMINGDALE ST. 5, USM 1: James Powers and Alex Weingarten combined on a four-hitter for the Rams (6-8) as they handed the Huskies (3-1) their first loss of the season at Farmingdale, N.Y.

Southern Maine jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Forrest Chadwick was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a single by Nick Grady.


BOWDOIN 4, UMASS-BOSTON 1: Melissa DellaTorre struck out four and walked three while throwing a four-hitter to lead the Polar Bears (6-2) to a win over the Beacons (2-1) in their second game of the day at Clermont, Fla.

Dimitria Spathakis, Gen Barlow and Victoria Rusch had two hits apiece for the Polar Bears, and Spathakis and Barlow each drove in a run.

Bowdoin defeated William Paterson 11-3 earlier in the day.

COLGATE 5, MAINE 3: Jessica Burk, Katlin Norton and Makaila Kowalsky each had a hit and an RBI for the Black Bears (3-25) as they fell to the Raiders (1-13) at Clearwater, Fla.

Beth Spoehr gave up just one hit in 41/3 shutout innings of relief for Maine.

UNE 9, UMASS-DARTMOUTH 1: Allie Frazier went 3 for 4 with six RBI and two runs scored as the Nor'easters (1-2) downed the Corsairs (0-1) at Fort Myers, Fla.

University of New England starter Lauren Doneski scattered four hits and struck out three in a complete game.

PITT-BRADFORD 7, UNE 0: Jess Lemos had the lone hit for the Nor'easters (1-3) as they were blanked by the Panthers (5-5) in their second game of the day at Fort Myers, Fla.
