FALMOUTH — Camden Hills’ tenure as the state’s lone unbeaten schoolboy hockey team came to an end Tuesday when Greely skated to a 9-1 victory at the Family Ice Center.

Teddy Hart scored three goals as the Rangers, the defending Class B state champions, snapped the Windjammers’ 12-game win streak.

“The guys just played a very sharp game,” Greely Coach Barry Mothes said.

“Our defensemen did a great job of finding open forwards in the middle who were moving with speed, and our forwards did a good job of skating good routes off the puck.

“Our transition game depends on quick passes but it also depends on guys moving and being open.”

Greely (11-4) held a 38-14 edge in shots.

“It’s not that we didn’t know how they play,” Camden Hills Coach Karl Enroth said. “They’re very efficient. The move the puck well and they get to where they need to go, and we were just slow to react to what they were doing.”

The Rangers scored four goals in each of the first two periods.

“Basically we’ve had two games in the last 2 1/2 weeks and it showed,” Enroth said. “It would have been nice to play another team (first) and maybe get geared up (for Greely), but it just shows we’ve got a lot of work to do to get to their level.”

The game was scheduled for Monday night but moved to Tuesday when the Windjammers were unable to travel because of icy roads.

The teams will meet each other again Friday night at Rockport.

Reid Howland scored two goals for the Rangers. Pete Hurley, Joe Saffian, Jared Lavallee and Kyle Megathlin also scored.

Jack Orne had an unassisted goal for Camden Hills nine minutes into the game after Greely took a 3-0 lead.

It was the fifth hat trick of the season for Hart.

“He’s a talented player and he has a lot of skills,” Mothes said. “He’s got deceptive speed. He can change speeds probably as well as anybody I’ve seen, and he’s got a great, great pair of hands.

“He’s good in tight. He’s good in open ice.”
