Softball Roundup: Capers capture a showdown game

SOUTH PORTLAND 3, MARSHWOOD 0: Erin Bogdanovich pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Red Riots (7-2) over Marshwood (6-2) at South Portland.

The Riots scored three runs in the first inning. Danica Gleason brought in the winning run with a sacrifice fly and Olivia Indorf hit an RBI single.

FALMOUTH 7, WELLS 4: Julia Treadwell hit three doubles to pace Falmouth (5-3) over the Warriors (5-5) at Wells.

The Yachtsmen trailed 4-3 after five innings, then rallied with four runs in the sixth. Jessica Collins provided an RBI single and the Yachtsmen added three unearned runs.

YORK 14, LAKE REGION 0: Lisa King pitched a six-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk as the Wildcats (2-7) beat Lake Region (0-8) in five innings at York.

York scored three runs in the first. Ivy Sheehan had an RBI triple and went on to score.

GARDINER 2, MEDOMAK VALLEY 1: Kristal Smith struck out 12 and Bri Brochu drove in both runs to lead Gardiner (9-0) over the Panthers (7-3) at Waldoboro.

Smith, who walked one, loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth inning but escaped when a run was cut down at home and she struck out the next two. The Tigers scored in the first ion Brochu's fielder's choice and another in the third on Brochu's single. Kylee Granholm added two hits for Gardiner.

Desiree Benner of Medomak struck out nine and allowed one walk, and Abby McGuire singled, doubled and had the RBI.

MESSALONSKEE 18, MT. ARARAT 6: Kylee Knight had a triple and two singles to lead Messalonskee (9-1) over Mt. Ararat (3-7) at Oakland.

Courtney Veilleux added two singles and stole five bases for Messalonskee. Other repeat hittesr were Emily York with a double and two singles, and Natalie Hunt with a triple and a double.

Taylor Pare had a double and two singles for Mt. Ararat.

CARRABEC 20, LISBON 14: Courtney Lancaster and Skylar Murray hit two-run doubles in a six-run fifth inning to lead the Cobras (3-6) over the Greyhounds (3-7) at Lisbon Falls.

Lancaster finished with three RBI. Skylar Murray had three hits and three RBI for the Cobras.

Olivia Harrington, Taylor Plourde and Chanal Bisson had RBI doubles for the Greyhounds.

WINTHROP 5, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 4: Krissi Doughty drove in the tying run, scored the winning run and earned the pitching win as the Ramblers (5-3) beat Spruce Mountain (5-4) at Winthrop.

Winthrop trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth when Danni Pease led off with a single. Doughty followed with an RBI triple to tie it. Kennedy Connor then grounded out, but Doughty beat the return throw home for the winning run.

Doughty allowed only three hits. Pease and Lily Ouellette each had a pair of hits for the Ramblers.

Casidee Couture singled twice for Spruce Mountain.

HALL-DALE 6, MT. ABRAM 3: The Bulldogs (5-4) took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning and held off the Roadrunners (3-6) at Salem.

Taylor Jordan struck out five and allowed five hits for Mt. Abram.
