Major League Notebook: Cobb leaves hospital, will go on 7-day DL

The Associated Press

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb left the hospital and went home Sunday, one day after he was hit in the right ear by a line drive.

The Rays announced during their game against Kansas City that Cobb had been released from Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. The team said he will be placed on the seven-day concussion list.

There was no timetable for Cobb to rejoin the rotation.

Cobb texted teammates Sunday morning saying he had a headache but would soon be out of the hospital.

Cobb was struck by a liner off the bat of Kansas City's Eric Hosmer in the fifth inning of Saturday's game but remained conscious. He was taken off the field on a stretcher.

YANKEES: First baseman Mark Teixeira has no new tears in the tendon sheath around his inflamed right wrist.

Teixeira got a cortisone shot Sunday. New York manager Joe Girardi said he will be re-evaluated next week.

Teixeira left the Yankees' 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday in the fourth inning. The Yankees sent him back to New York for evaluation.

ATHLETICS: A sewage problem at the Coliseum forced Oakland and Seattle to use the same locker room after the Athletics' 10-2 win Sunday.

The pipes backed up on the lower levels of the stadium during the game, creating a stink and pools of water in the clubhouses.

The A's and Mariners moved to a higher floor and cleaned up in the locker room used by the NFL's Oakland Raiders.

DODGERS: Manager Don Mattingly is eagerly looking forward to his first visit in uniform to the Bronx since 2007.

The former Yankees star will be back Tuesday night when Los Angeles opens a two-game interleague series at New York.

The Dodgers have not played in the Bronx since clinching the 1981 World Series at the old Yankee Stadium.

Mattingly left the Yankees as their bench coach after the 2007 season when he was bypassed in favor of Joe Girardi for manager.
