Maine Football Roundup: Colby turns to defense for its first victory

CLINTON, N.Y. - Nick Kmetz threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Michael Lahiff with 8:04 left in the third quarter, breaking a 7-7 tie and helping Colby beat Hamilton 13-7 Saturday for its first victory of the season.

Ryan Veillette had 10 tackles, 21/2 sacks and a fumble recovery for the Mules (1-4), who forced six turnovers by the Continentals (2-3).

Colby scored just 2:23 into the game on a 52-yard pass from Kmetz to Nick Joseph.

MIDDLEBURY 49, BATES 43: Nick Resor caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from McCallum Foote with 12 seconds left as the Panthers (2-3) scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally past the Bobcats (2-3) at Lewiston.

After falling behind 43-36 midway through the fourth quarter, the Bobcats tied the game on a 4-yard pass from Trevor Smith to Ryan MacDonald with 1:19 left.

TRINITY 31, BOWDOIN 0: Ben Crick scored on runs of 53 yards and 37 yards to lead the Bantams (5-0) past the Polar Bears (2-3) at Hartford, Conn.

Nick Goldin caught four passes for 50 yards for the Polar Bears.

MASS. MARITIME 34, MAINE MARITIME 6: The Buccaneers (5-2, 3-2 NEFC Bogan Division) forced nine turnovers and limited the Mariners (4-3, 2-3) to 232 yards of offense at Buzzards Bay, Mass.

Maine Maritime scored on a 40-yard run by Ian Champeon.

NORWICH 41, HUSSON 7: Kris Sabourin had 11 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown to lead the Cadets (5-3, 5-0 ECFC) over the Eagles (0-7, 0-4) at Bangor.

Audie Murphy caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Kash Keezer in the final minute of the third quarter for Husson.
