ALTOONA, Pa. – Mel Rojas Jr. singled in the winning run with two outs in the 12th inning Wednesday night to give the Altoona Curve a 6-5 victory against the Portland Sea Dogs.

Alex Dickerson led off the bottom of the 12th with a single to deep short and two outs later, Rojas delivered a walk-off single.

Zach Townsend, the fifth Curve pitcher, was the winner. Eric Niesen took the loss for the Sea Dogs.

With the score 4-4, Derrik Gibson of the Sea Dogs led off the 11th with a sharp single to left. Gibson stole second, advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt by Ryan Beckman and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Deven Marrero.

But Alen Henson drilled a deep home run to left in the bottom of the inning to send the game to the 12th.

The Sea Dogs threatened in their half of the 12th when Travis Shaw belted a two-out triple off the center-field wall, but was left stranded.

The Sea Dogs broke on top by scoring a run in the third inning.

After a three-hit night in Tuesday’s victory, Ryan Dent led off with a sharp single to left and later scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Marrero.

But the Curve bounced right back to take the lead with a walk, three hits and a Sea Dog error for a pair of runs.

The Curve increased their lead to 3-1 in the fifth and did it with two outs.

Gregory Polanco reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on an RBI double down the left-field line by Dickerson.

Sea Dogs starter Chris Hernandez didn’t figure in the decision.

The left-hander worked 52/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits. He also struck out two and walked a pair.

Still hanging around with the two-run deficit, the Sea Dogs took advantage of a single by Ronald Bermudez, a double by Dent, a wild pitch by Zack Thornton and an RBI single by Marrero to make it 3-3. For Marrero, it was his third hit of the game.

But Polanco quickly gave the Curve a 4-3 lead when he picked on a fastball from Bobby Lanigan and sent it over the right-field fence.

Portland made it 4-4 with a run in the top of the ninth to send it to extra innings.

Following his three-hit game Tuesday night, Dent again came up with three hits, with a double and pair of singles. He also scored three of the Sea Dogs’ runs.

Left-hander Matt Maloney was solid in relief, tossing two scoreless innings for the Sea Dogs, who dropped to six games under .500 for the third time this season.

The teams will wrap up the three-game series Thursday night with a single game set for a 7 p.m. start.

Portland will send Terry Doyle (1-4, 4.14) to the mound, while the Curve will counter with David Bromberg (5-9, 3.56).
