Football Roundup: Falcons remain unbeaten with win over Greely

RUMFORD - Rumford made an early lead stand up for a 13-0 victory over Greely in a Western Class B football game Friday night.

The Falcons did all their scoring in the first quarter to remain unbeaten at 6-0 and hand the Rangers their second loss in six games.

Izaak Mills returned a blocked punt 12 yards for a touchdown and Christian Durland caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Cam Kaubris.

 

PORTLAND 42, WESTBROOK 22: Imadhi Zagon scored four first-half touchdowns as the Bulldogs (2-4) raced out to a 35-8 halftime lead and cruised past the Rams (0-6) at Gorham.

Nick Kilborn, Brad Turnbaugh and Nick Chabot each scored touchdowns for Gorham.

 

YARMOUTH 63, BOOTHBAY REGION 6: Anders Overhaug had six carries for 96 yards and three touchdowns as the Clippers (6-0) defeated the Seahawks (1-5) at Yarmouth.

Overhaug had touchdown runs of 21, 16 and 10 yards. Nate Pingitore had four carries for 75 yards, including TD runs of 18 and 40 yards.

Jon Held had five tackles, two fumble recoveries and two sacks for the Clippers.

John Weston scored on a 77-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Seahawks.

 

SCARBOROUGH 63, NOBLE 14: Mark Pearson rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries as the Red Storm (5-1) used an overwhelming ground game to beat Noble (1-5) in Scarborough.

Scott Thibeault added 105 yards and two TDs on 12 carries, and Dennis Liu had 103 yards and two TDs on 12 carries.

 

FALMOUTH 47, GRAY-NG 0: Senior quarterback Zack Alexander scored three touchdown to pace the Yachtsmen (4-2) to a victory over Gray-New Gloucester (0-6) at Gray.

The Yachtsmen scored two touchdowns and a safety in the first quarter to jump out to a 16-0 lead. The defense held the Patriots to one first down in the first half.

Alexander also completed a 65-yard pass to Jack Colleen in the first half, and David Goodrich kicked a 40-yard field goal.

In the second half, Caleb Bowden had a 10-yard touchdown run and Jacob Buhelt scored on a 50-yard run.

 

THORNTON ACADEMY 41, MARSHWOOD 8: Josh Woodward rushed for three touchdowns and threw for a fourth as the Trojans (5-1) beat Marshwood (2-4) at South Berwick.

Dimitri Skinsacos scored twice for Thornton, one on a 29-yard pass from Woodward.

 

LEAVITT 55, MORSE 21: Jordan Hersom rushed for three touchdowns as Leavitt (5-0) opened a 47-0 lead and rolled past Morse (1-5) at Turner.

 

MDI 28, WATERVILLE 21: Mount Desert Island (4-2) scored in the final minute to break a tie and beat Waterville (3-3) at Bar Harbor in a Pine Tree Conference game.

MDI got inside the Waterville 10-yard line after a late hit on quarterback Dustin Smith.

Waterville's touchdowns came on a pass by Kyle Bishop to Tim Locke and runs by Bishop and Aaron Saucier. The Panthers got to midfield after MDI's late touchdown, but had a desperation pass picked off in the final seconds.

 

EDWARD LITTLE 42, SKOWHEGAN 0: Josh Delong and Teven Colon each rushed for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Red Eddies (3-3) to a Pine Tree Conference Class A win at Skowhegan (1-5).

Colon scored on runs of 50 and 48 yards as the Eddies amassed 389 yards on the ground. Delong added runs of 34 and 3 yards.

 

LAWRENCE 25, LEWISTON 6: The Bulldogs (6-0) pulled away in the second half to beat the Blue Devils (5-1) at Lewiston.

Lawrence led 7-6 at halftime after stopping Lewiston at the 5-yard line with four seconds left in the second quarter.

"We know when we have our backs against the wall we're a very good team, so we talked about heaving heart," said Lawrence defensive end Mark Yandian, who had three sacks and a forced fumble in the second half.

The Bulldogs held the Blue Devils to minus-10 yards in the second half, and the only Lewiston first down came on a penalty late in the fourth quarter.

Shaun Carroll's 7-yard touchdown run with 8:30 left in the third quarter gave Lawrence a 13-6 lead. Three minutes later, Blair Blaisdell (15 carries for 169 yards) scored from 5 yards for a 19-6 lead.

Quarterback Spencer Carey's 2-yard touchdown run with 1:48 to play in the third capped the Bulldogs' scoring.

 

MCI 26, ROCKLAND 8: Tyler Maloon's 66-yard touchdown pass to Craig Reazor on a fake punt early in the fourth quarter helped MCI (3-3) pull away from Rockland (3-3) at Pittsfield.

Led by running back Joe Nelson (16 carries for 93 yards and two catches for 69 yards), Rockland gained 272 yards and didn't have to punt. But the Tigers committed four turnovers and were denied four times by MCI on fourth-down attempts.

The first turnover occurred less than 90 seconds into the game, as an interception by Maloon set up a short drive leading to a 12-yard TD run by Britton Moholland for a 7-0 lead.

Rockland struck back early in the second quarter when Nelson scored from 14 yards and ran in the conversion, giving the Tigers an 8-7 lead at halftime.

 

WINTHROP 15, OAK HILL 8: Winthrop (6-0) relied on its defense to avoid an upset bid by visiting Oak Hill (2-4).

Derek Pamphrey intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards to set up a 1-yard TD run by quarterback Travis Luce in the third quarter.

In the fourth, linebacker Hunter Sherman blocked an Oak Hill punt in the end zone for a safety.
