SACO – C.J. Pendleton singled, stole second and scored on a single by Alex Fallon in the 11th inning Wednesday to give second-seeded Fayette-Staples a 4-3 victory over third-seeded Massabesic in the semifinals of the Zone 5 American Legion baseball tournament.

Dillon Dunbar of Fayette-Staples (12-7) gave up one earned run on seven hits and one walk, striking out 11 over 8 2/3 innings.

Brian Wardwell struck out three over nine innings for Massabesic (10-9).

STAPLES CROSSING 12, SACO BAY PT 2: Robert Jones broke open a 3-1 game with a two-out, two-run double in the fifth inning and finished with three hits as top-seeded Marshwood (16-2) downed fourth-seeded York (10-9) in eight innings in the semifinals of the Zone 5 tournament at South Berwick.

Marshwood will meet Thornton in the final at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at South Berwick.

BIDDEFORD SAVINGS 3, SMITH-TOBEY 1: Eamon Smith drew a bases-loaded walk and Jason Vadnais followed with an RBI single as Biddeford (10-9) scored twice in the second inning and held off visiting Bath (5-12-1) in an opening-round game.

STANDISH POST 128 12, FIRST TITLE 3: Roderick Maynard pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks and also hit a two-run single for Bonny Eagle (9-10), which used a six-run second inning to cruise past Cheverus (6-13) in the opening round at Standish.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER PATRIOTS POST 86 9, WINDHAM MERCHANTS 4: Tyler St. Pierre drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run double in the fourth inning and Thomas Wood added a two-run double in the sixth as Gray-New Gloucester (8-11) pulled away from Windham (6-12-1) in an opening- round game at Gray.

FALMOUTH 7, LIBBY-MITCHELL 4: Cal Inlow hit a three-run triple to spark a seven-run seventh inning for Falmouth (10-8) against visiting Scarborough (5-14) in the opening round.

NASHUA 6, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 3: Karl Kapinos drove in the go-ahead run with a fielder’s choice to cap a four-run seventh inning and added a two-run single in the ninth as the Silver Knights (25-13) rallied past the Raging Tide (17-22) at Old Orchard Beach.

n A total of eight players from the Raging Tide were named to the New England roster for the league All-Star game Thursday at Pittsfield, Mass.

The position players selected were second baseman Aaron Wilson, outfielders Matt Pagano and Graham McIntire, and first baseman Phil Sciretta.

Pitchers named to the roster were starters Nick Whitaker of Yarmouth and St. Joseph’s College, Ryan Otero and closer Tyler Pogmore.

Also, catcher Mekae Hyde of Lewiston and Bates College was named to the final roster spot after leading the fan vote.
