NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Southern Maine women’s basketball coach Gary Fifield won his 600th game Saturday, but it was not easy.

USM defeated UMass-Dartmouth 75-71 after trailing 71-70 with 1:36 to play. Haley Jordan blocked a shot and grabbed the rebound. Jordan Grant scored a layup on the other end to give the Huskies the lead for good.

USM (20-5, 11-3 Little East) earned the second seed in the league tournament and received a bye into the semifinals at Rhode Island College. The Huskies will play Friday against the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 3 Keene State and No. 6 UMass-Boston.

Fifield, in his 24th season with USM, has a career record of 600-111.

BOWDOIN 53, WESLEYAN 37: Jill Henrikson scored 22 points as the third-seeded Polar Bears (19-6) easily defeated the sixth-seeded Cardinals (14-9) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Brunswick.

COLBY 61, WILLIAMS 59: Jayde Bennett scored a team-high 13 points, including a pivotal three-point play in the final minute, as the fourth-seeded Mules (19-6) held off the fifth-ranked Ephs (19-6) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Waterville.

ST. JOSEPH’S 79, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 75: The Monks (18-7, 12-1 GNAC) closed the overtime period with a 6-2 run for the win against the Falcons (14-11, 6-7) at New Haven, Conn.

UNE 76, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 52: Margo Russell scored 25 points and the Nor’easters wrapped up the top seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament by beating the Golden Bears (13-12, 12-6) in a regular-season finale at Biddeford.

SMCC 70, HAMPSHIRE 30: Marissa Welch had 16 points and 11 rebounds to help the Seawolves (15-11, 10-6 YSCC) down the Frogs at Amherst, Mass.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

MARIST 77, MAINE 71: Chavaughn Lewis led four players in double figures with 24 points as the Red Foxes (11-16) dealt the host Black Bears (11-14) their fourth straight loss.

ALBERTUS MAGNUS 75, ST. JOSEPH’S 62: Ray Askew scored 22 points to lead the Falcons (24-1, 18-0) over the Monks (17-8, 13-5) at New Haven, Conn.

BATES 57, TUFTS 54: The fifth-seeded Bobcats (13-12) used an 18-3 run in the second half and got some help from the fourth-seeded Jumbos (16-8) in the final seconds of a NESCAC quarterfinal at Medford, Mass.

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 84, USM 69: Justin Pulver scored 25 points as the Corsairs (13-12, 7-7 Little East) handled the Huskies (11-14, 3-11) at North Dartmouth, Mass.

WESLEYAN 78, BOWDOIN 59: Shasha Brown scored 21 points and the third-seeded Cardinals (20-5) went ahead for good with a 14-2 run near halftime against the sixth-seeded Polar Bears (17-8) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Middletown, Conn.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 57, UNE 47: Damon Alston scored 22 points and the Golden Bears (9-16, 6-12 CCC) topped the Nor’easters (6-19, 6-12) to win the battle for the eighth seed for the conference tournament, at Biddeford.

SMCC 89, HAMPSHIRE 20: Jake Loveridge scored 16 points to lead four double-digit scorers for the Seawolves (12-17, 4-12 YSCC) against the Frogs at Amherst, Mass.

BOWDOIN 6, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 4: Harry Matheson and Ollie Koo had a goal and two assists apiece for the Polar Bears (15-5-3, 12-3-3), who took a 3-1 lead in the first period and held off the Camels (6-15-3, 4-12-2) at New London, Conn.

UNE 4, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 2: Four players scored and Craig Ryan made 32 saves for the Nor’easters (4-18-2, 2-16), who took a 2-0 lead in the first and held off the Pilgrims (9-11-5, 6-8-4) at Biddeford.

ST. ANSELM 2, USM 2: Alex Pascal scored with the goalie pulled and 20 seconds remaining to pull the Hawks (12-8-4, 7-8-3 ECAC East) even with the Huskies (9-10-6, 7-7-4) at Gorham.

TUFTS 3, COLBY 2: Kyle Gallegos scored twice, and Tyler Voigt had a goal and an assist for the Jumbos (12-10-2, 9-8-1), who took a 2-0 lead and held off the Mules (7-15-1, 4-13-1) at Medford, Mass.

MAINE 4, NEW HAMPSHIRE 3: Danielle Ward scored 3:23 into overtime to lift the University of Maine (16-10-6, 10-8-2 Hockey East) over the University of New Hampshire (10-20-3, 4-14-2) at Orono.

COLBY 6, HAMILTON 1: Lauren Guarente scored two first-period goals to lead Colby (6-16-2, 3-12-1 NESCAC) over Hamilton (10-13-1, 7-9) at Waterville.

Colby’s win, along with a 2-0 win by Trinity over Wesleyan, secured the No. 8 seed in the league playoffs.

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, NICHOLS 1: Jana Sacco had two goals as the Huskies (7-14-4, 7-9-2 ECAC) beat Nichols College (7-16-2, 4-12-2) at Harrisville, R.I.

BOWDOIN 2, AMHERST 2: Kayla Lessard had 38 saves to keep Bowdoin (11-9-4) in contention against Amherst (19-4-1) at Brunswick.

The Polar Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Kayte Koltz and Dominique Lozzi. Amherst rallied with two in the second to tie. Emily Flom and Emily Vitale scored for the Lord Jeffs.
