First Title holds on for win

PORTLAND - Will Hilton hit a pinch-hit two-run single in the fifth inning for a five-run lead Wednesday, and First Title held on for a 5-4 victory against Falmouth in an American Legion baseball game at Kevin MacDonald Field.

Nic Lops hit a two-run single with two outs in the fourth inning, Mitchell Powers pitched six strong innings for the win and Nate Smith earned his first save.

Grayson Beressi tripled and scored twice for Falmouth (4-1), which rallied for three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

 

MORRILL 4, LIBBY-MITCHELL 3: Evan Indorf's two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Nick Whitten and lifted Morrill at South Portland.

Indorf finished 2 for 3 and also scored twice. Whitten had two hits, including a run-scoring single during a three-run fifth.

Jamie Lapham had an RBI single for Libby-Mitchell.

 

SACO-BIDDEFORD SAVINGS 8, NOBLE 0: Matt Cote had three hits with two RBI and Nate McKeown tossed a two-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks as Saco-Biddeford Savings won at Biddeford.

Taylor Reuillard, Corey Brown, Corey Collard and Bryan Gelinas each had two hits for SBS, which scored four runs in the second inning, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

 

STAPLES CROSSING 13, BONANZA OF SANFORD 2: Zach Quintal had three hits with an RBI and two runs to lead Staples Crossing (3-3) to a five-inning victory against Bonanza of Sanford (1-5) at South Berwick.

Noah McDaniel had two hits, and also had an RBI and two runs, and Conor McFarland hit a two-run single for Staples Crossing.

McFarland struck out five, walked four, and allowed two unearned runs.

TWILIGHT LEAGUE

PATRIOT INSURANCE 3, AERO HEATING AND VENTILATING 1: Luke Myers pitched six scoreless innings, Kyle Donaldson recorded his second save and Alex Newton had an RBI single for Patriot (3-2) against Aero (3-3).

Brendan Joyce had two hits for Patriots. Jake Gardiner had an RBI single for Aero.

 

YANKEE FORD 6, LENDER'S NETWORK 1: Scott Ouellette had a two-run double in the first inning and Andrew Stacy finished with 11 strikeouts to lead Yankee Ford (3-1-1) past Lender's Network (1-3-1) at Portland.

FCBL

NASHUA 11, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1: Jon Minucci homered and drove in four runs to lead the Nashua Silver Knights before a Parks & Recreation Day crowd of 1,297 at Old Orchard Beach.

Nashua (10-5) collected 16 hits off seven pitchers and opened a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Sam Balzano of Portland and the University of Maine prevented the shutout by scoring from second on a two-out single by Jason Vosler in the sixth.

Old Orchard (7-7) had won three straight by a combined score of 29-7.
