CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Blake James has been hired as Miami's athletic director after serving in the job in an interim capacity for four months.
James was athletic director at the University of Maine from 2005-2010.
It was widely expected that James would get the job, which he first assumed on a temporary basis when Shawn Eichorst left for the same role at Nebraska in early October.
James' hiring comes at a key time, with the Hurricanes still involved with an NCAA investigation into the school's compliance practices.
James had been Miami's senior associate athletic director for development and ticket operations before the promotion.
"Blake James has proven that he has the experience, skills, leadership and especially the love for the university that we need in athletics," Miami President Donna Shalala said.
