YARMOUTH – Aubrey Pennell scored five goals and Meredith Broderick added four Tuesday to lead Freeport to a 13-8 victory against North Yarmouth Academy in a schoolgirl lacrosse opener.

Jocelyn Davee added two goals for Freeport. Olivia Madore scored five for NYA.

GORHAM 14, SANFORD 4: Kali St. Germain had two goals and three assists to lead 11 scorers as the Rams won an opener at Gorham.

Meghan Cushing had a goal, five draw controls and three ground balls for the Rams, and Maddy Hamblen made nine saves.

WINDHAM 14, DEERING 2: Christina Pollard scored four goals, and Emily Gilman had three goals and two assists to pace the Eagles in an opener at Windham.

Sam Greenlaw also scored three times for Windham. Casey Girsch and Samantha Sivovlos answered for Deering.

MESSALONSKEE 10, MT. ARARAT 7: Kristen Kern scored four goals to lead Messalonskee (1-0) over Mt. Ararat (1-1) at Topsham.

Rebecca Schuman led Mt. Ararat with three goals. Sierra Gilley scored two.

KENNEBUNK 8, THORNTON ACADEMY 7: Betsy Craig got the go-ahead goal in the final five minutes and Rose Bryant scored five times to lead the Rams in an opener at Saco.

Kyra Schwartzman and Catie Bush also scored for Kennebunk. Katelyn Pierson had three goals for Thornton.

WAYNFLETE 17, YARMOUTH 5: Sadie Cole and Martha Veroneau scored five goals apiece to lead Waynflete (2-0) past the Clippers (0-2) at Yarmouth.

Walker Foehl added three goals for the Flyers. Lane Simsarian had two for the Clippers.

CAMDEN HILLS 18, LINCOLN ACADEMY 3: Kristine Alex, Lea Smith and Kiere Haining scored three goals apiece as the Windjammers (1-1) cruised past the Eagles (0-1) at Newcastle.

BONNY EAGLE 16, WESTBROOK 3: Sam Campobasso scored five goals and Hannah Litis added four as the Scots won an opener at Standish.

Abby Ward made seven saves for Bonny Eagle.

MASSABESIC 7, CHEVERUS 6: Jackie Guillemette scored her second goal with 36 seconds left in the fourth overtime to lift the Mustangs in an opener at Portland.

Meredith Willard scored four goals and put Cheverus on top 6-5 in the first overtime but Mackenzie Kidder answered for Massabesic in the second.

Heather Everett also scored twice for the Mustangs.

Megan Hill of Massabesic and Emily Duff of Cheverus each made nine saves.

SCARBOROUGH 17, MCAULEY 2: Emma Smith, Ainsley Jamieson, Kaitlyn Prince and Avery Pietras each had two goals as the Red Storm won an opener at Portland.

Katherine Lake had both goals for McAuley.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

WESTBROOK 8, DEERING 7: Nick Tremblay scored four goals and assisted on another, and Sam Carroll added one goal and four assists as the Blue Blazes (1-2) edged the Rams (2-2) at Portland.

Ben Grant and Curtis Knapton chipped in with one goal and one assist apiece for Westbrook, which scored the winner with 2:30 left.

Billy Farrell led Deering with four goals.

KENNEBUNK 10, MARSHWOOD 4: Tyler Elkington scored four goals and assisted on four others as the Rams (4-0) downed the Hawks (2-3) at Kennebunk.

Josh Hussey and Jake Boothby added three goals apiece, and Hussey also had one assist for the Rams.

BASEBALL

WINDHAM 9, BIDDEFORD 1: Nate Boyle gave up one run on one hit, striking out nine over five innings as the Eagles (1-1) downed the Tigers (0-2) at Biddeford.

Boyle also went 3 for 4 with a double and a pair of runs.

Jack Herzig added two hits with two walks, two RBI and two runs for Windham, which broke a scoreless tie with a four-run third inning.

Matt Cote scored for Biddeford on a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

GREELY 12, LAKE REGION 0: Connor Russell struck out 10 and walked one, giving up two hits in his first varsity start as the Rangers (2-0) shut out the Lakers (0-2) in five innings at Cumberland.

Pat O’Shea and Jonah Normandeau each had two hits and scored twice for the Rangers. O’Shea added two RBI.

SOUTH PORTLAND 6, NOBLE 5: Dylan Burns hit a two-run single to spark a four-run fourth inning for the Red Riots (2-0), who rallied from a 5-2 deficit against the Knights (0-2) at South Portland.

Nick Whitten struck out three while closing the game with three scoreless innings to earn the save and also hit a two-run double.

Jacob Emard had an RBI triple for Noble.

MARSHWOOD 9, GORHAM 0: Kyle Markham tossed a one-hitter and Jake Lebel’s three-run double keyed a five-run first inning for the Hawks (2-0) against the Rams (1-1) at South Berwick.

Max McCoomb added a two-run triple for Marshwood in the second and finished with three RBI.

DEERING 6, THORNTON ACADEMY 1: Michael Marzilli sparked a four-run second inning with a two-run double to lead the Rams (1-1) past the Trojans (0-2) at Saco.

Samuel Luebbert of Deering struck out four in a three-hitter.

SOFTBALL

FOREST HILLS 8, VALLEY 6: The Tigers scored four runs in the seventh inning to defeat Valley and win an opener at Bingham.
