GORHAM - After Greely's Jessica Wilson tore away from the pack in the last 100 meters to win the 800 by nearly three seconds Friday night at the Western Maine Conference indoor track and field championships, she said all her teammates wanted was to improve individually.

Easy for the Rangers to say after finishing 1-2-3 in the 800 at the University of Southern Maine to push their team well ahead of the competition on their way to a second straight WMC title.
Greely compiled 214 points, easily beating runner-up Fal-mouth (91).
It was the same story in the boys' meet, as York successfully defended its championship. The Wildcats finished with 182 points, with Greely a distant second at 107.
Greely, perennially one of the state's best Class B programs, tuned up for the state meet on Feb. 20 at Bates College.
Sophomore Kirstin Sandreuter improved her mile time -- and the conference record -- by three seconds as she ran seven of eight laps by herself, far in front of the pack, to finish in 5 minutes, 9.19 seconds.
In the two mile, Sandreuter outpaced the pack again, winning by 50 seconds in 11:19.83.
"The two mile was not my best. But I felt really in control," said Sandreuter. "I'm just really focused on states. I wanted to get my time down (in the mile) for that. Everyone on the team is so supportive. We're excited to do our best."
Wilson echoed those sentiments.
"We had a team meeting yesterday and (Coach John Folan) reminded us that when we're riding on the bus, no one is talking about winning. We're concerned with making sure everyone feels good about their performance. I think that's why we do win," Wilson said.
Teammate Abby Bonnevie won the pole vault at 9-6, and Kelsey Saunders won the high jump at 5-0.
Kate Hall of Lake Region set a meet record in the long jump (17-5¼) and also won the junior 55 and 200. Gray-New Gloucester's Amanda Peterson placed first in the senior 55 and 200.
York's victory came through covering the events with point scorers in both the junior and senior divisions.
Tyler Martin won the high jump, soaring 6 feet, finished fifth in the 55 hurdles (8.72) and placed seventh in the 400.
Tom Reid won the triple jump (40-7¼) and took second in the long jump (19-7¼) and hurdles (8.32), behind Falmouth's Reid Pryzant in both events.
And Josh Brooks won the 400 in 54.75 before coming back to take second in the 200 (23.89).
"We're going for states. We have a really, really good chance. We have the numbers and the depth. This is the first time in a long time we have a really good chance," Brooks said.
Other double winners for the boys were Cape Elizabeth's Deven Roberts (junior hurdles and high jump) and Greely's Liam Campbell (800 and mile).
