Major League Notebook: Harper to sit two more days

The Associated Press

NEW YORK - Bryce Harper will be out of the Washington Nationals' lineup for at least two more days due to a sore left hip.

Manager Davey Johnson said tests show inflammation but no structural damage. The 20-year-old slugger will take oral medication and sit out the first two games of a four-game series against the Mets.

Harper, the NL Rookie of the Year last season, was scratched from the lineup Saturday in Miami and hasn't played since. He is batting .273 with 19 homers and 49 RBI during an injury-plagued season.

The Nationals, on the fringe of the NL wild-card race, aren't sure when Harper will rejoin the team.

RANGERS: Opening day starter Matt Harrison had his third surgery of the season.

The left-hander never got back into the rotation after having two operations on a herniated disk in his lower back. The third surgery -- for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome -- was on his right side. He is expected to be ready for spring training.

PIRATES: Pittsburgh is not sure if right-hander Charlie Morton will be able to make his next start.

Morton returned to Pittsburgh to receive medical attention after injuring his left foot in Sunday's game at St. Louis.

MARINERS: Pitching ace Felix Hernandez will not make his scheduled start on Wednesday, the second time his turn in the rotation has been pushed back.

Hernandez is 12-9 with a 3.01 ERA this season. He's lost five of his last six decisions and given up 38 hits and 24 earned runs during that stretch.
