GORHAM – Sam Dexter, Nick Grady and Troy Thibodeau had two hits apiece as 16th-ranked Southern Maine scored five runs in the first two innings and went on to defeat Bowdoin 9-4 in a baseball game Tuesday afternoon.

The Huskies (30-6) opened the scoring with a three-run first inning that included a two-run double by Grady, and added two more runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead.

Thibodeau led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to extend the lead to 6-2, and Matt Verrier put the game out of reach with a two-run blast in the eighth inning.

Shyler Scates gave up two runs over six innings to earn the win for the Huskies, who reached the 30-win plateau for the 13th season in school history.

Kyle LeBlanc and Chris Nadeau each reached base three times for the Polar Bears (22-12), who went 3 for 16 with runners in scoring position.

ST. JOSEPH’S 10, GORDON 8: Taylor Reuillard went 4 for 5 with a home run, four RBI and two runs to pace a 16-hit attack for the Monks (28-11) in a win over the Fighting Scots (16-20) at Wenham, Mass.

Jimmy Kennedy gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits over seven innings to earn the win for the Monks, who led 10-5 going into the bottom of the ninth inning.

 

MAINE 21, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 3: The Black Bears (26-17) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first and cruised past the Owls (12-23) at Orono.

Shane Bussey had three hits and four RBI while Scott Heath, Fran Whitten and Michael Fransoso drove in three runs apiece.

COLBY SWEEPS UM-FARMINTON: Tim Corey led off the top of the sixth with a game-tying home run and Tyler Starks later drove in the winning run with a one-out single as the Mules (10-20) rallied for a 2-1 win over the Beavers (9-21) in the first game of a doubleheader at Farmington.

Ian Bezahler scattered seven hits and struck out five batters over six innings to earn the win for Colby. Mark Nelson struck out the side in the seventh to pick up the save.

In the second game, Colin Cummings homered and drove in five runs and Tyler Starks added three hits and three RBI to lead the Mules to a 10-6 victory.
