TAMPA, Fla. – Derek Jeter says he will play at shortstop Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies.

It’s the first time in the field for Jeter since ankle surgery last fall. Jeter said Tuesday after working out in Tampa, Fla., that he’ll “be out there” against the Phillies after two games as the designated hitter.

The game Wednesday also marks the spring training debut for Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte.

Jeter went 0 for 2 Monday in his second game at DH since breaking his left ankle in October. He had a single in two at-bats Saturday.

Jeter had a resurgent season in 2012, leading the American League with 216 hits and batting .316 with 15 homers and 58 RBI.

He first injured his ankle in mid-September and fouled balls off his foot several times after that.

nIvan Nova continued to make a case to be the Yankees’ fifth starter by pitching four scoreless innings during a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Port Charlotte, Fla.

Nova allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two in his third exhibition start. Nova, who faltered down the stretch last season, has allowed one run over nine innings this spring.

TIGERS-PHILLIES: Ramon Santiago hit a grand slam and Don Kelly also homered off Roy Halladay, leading Detroit to a 10-6 win over Philadelphia at Clearwater, Fla.

The Tigers roughed up Halladay for seven runs in 22/3 innings. He allowed six hits and walked four in his poorest outing this spring. He came in with a 2.16 ERA in three starts.

DIAMONDBACKS-MARINERS: Felix Hernandez struck out three in three innings of his second spring training start, but Seattle lost to an Arizona split squad 5-4 at Peoria, Ariz.

Hernandez, who became the highest-paid pitcher in baseball when he signed a seven-year, $175 million contract in February, walked one and gave up one hit — a solo home run to Eric Hinske.

In two spring appearances, Hernandez allowed two runs and three hits in five innings. He has one walk and five strikeouts.

RANGERS-BREWERS: Jeff Baker homered off Tom Gorzelanny and Mike Olt against Travis Webb, helping Texas rout Milwaukee 12-3 at Surprise, Ariz.

ORIOLES: Right fielder Nick Markakis was diagnosed with a small herniated disk in his neck and will be out about another week.

Orioles Manager Buck Showalter made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

Markakis was scratched from the Orioles’ lineup on March 3 with neck spasms, and had an MRI on Monday.

He was told he’d miss two weeks, but since he’s already rested it for a week, Markakis should be ready to play next week.

Showalter says Markakis has returned to Baltimore to see a spine specialist.

In 2012, Markakis had surgeries on his abdomen, right hand and left thumb. He has played in an average of 160 games a year in his previous five seasons.

ATHLETICS: Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes rejoined Oakland after briefly leaving spring training to be reunited with his family for the first time in about a year.

The Cuban defector surprised family members in Miami after they arrived over the weekend from the Turks and Caicos, where they had been detained as illegal immigrants.

The relatives, including Cespedes’ mother, Estela Milanes, were released Jan. 21.

Cespedes had a 24-hour window before he had to return to camp, but his family understood.

He said he hopes his mother and many of the others will be able to attend the A’s season opener in Oakland on April 1 against Seattle.
