Girls' Roundup: Lake Region wins in field hockey

NAPLES - Lucy Fowler scored in the first half and assisted on Elizabeth Schreiber's goal in the second Thursday as Lake Region defeated Yarmouth 2-0 in a Western Maine Conference field hockey game.

Meghan VanLoan of the Lakers (11-0) didn't face a shot on goal. Nicole Hickey had three saves for the Clippers (5-4-1).

BONNY EAGLE 0, WESTBROOK 0: Ashlyn Wintle made 15 saves for the Scots (1-6-2), including four in overtime against Westbrook (7-2-1) at Standish.

Mo Thomas added a defensive save for Bonny Eagle. Zoe Shields had two saves for the Blue Blazes.

DEERING 1, NOBLE 0: Kiana DiBiase scored midway through the first half and Bri Delano recorded the shutout as the Rams (6-4) beat the Knights (1-8-1) at Portland.

Marissa Jones finished with four saves for Noble.

CHEVERUS 2, GORHAM 1: Staci Swallow opened the scoring four minutes into the first half and Katie Roy made it 2-0 six minutes into the second as the Stags (10-1) held off the Rams (5-5) at Gorham.

Gorham cut it to 2-1 when Jaime Hansen scored from Evelyn Viernes with 7:39 left.

PORTLAND 2, MCAULEY 1: Georgia Drew scored at 27:40 of the second half as the visiting Bulldogs (1-8-1) took a 2-0 lead, enough to withstand Jenny Devine's late goal for McAuley (0-10) at Portland.

Isabelle DiMillo gave Portland a 1-0 lead at 22:40 of the first half.

SACOPEE VALLEY 2, FREEPORT 1: Paige Shortsleeves assisted Brittney Ouellette three minutes into the game and added a goal from Julia Vacchiano with 12 minutes left in the first half as the Hawks (2-8-1) edged the Falcons (5-5-1) at South Hiram.

Freeport cut it to 2-1 when Abigail Smith scored with eight minutes left in the half.

SCARBOROUGH 4, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Ellen Walker scored three times as the Red Storm (10-0) beat Thornton Academy (5-5) at Scarborough.

Katie Granzier also scored; Emily Bunting and Maddie Dobecki had assists.

BIDDEFORD 2, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Mallory Mourmouras scored the winning goal seven minutes into the second half as Biddeford (3-5-2) beat the Red Riots (2-8) at South Portland.

Sophany Srey gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead late in the first half and Kristina Salasia tied it early in the second.

MARSHWOOD 2, WINDHAM 0: Lindsey Poirier scored in the first half and Ashley Hickey in the second as Marshwood (9-2) beat the Eagles (3-7-1) at Windham.

Sammy Crosman assisted on Poirier's goal.

WINSLOW 2, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Pilar Elias scored both goals as the Black Raiders (7-2-1) beat the Eagles (0-8-2) at Newcastle.

MT. BLUE 2, OCEANSIDE 1: Sarita Crandall and Mikayla Oswald scored for the Cougars (5-4) against Oceanside (6-3-1) at Farmington.

SOCCER

CAPE ELIZABETH 3, YORK 0: Montana Braxton scored seven minutes into the game, and Lizzie Raftice and Kathryn Clark added second-half goals to lead the Capers (8-1) over the Wildcats (4-2-1) at Cape Elizabeth.

FALMOUTH 7, WELLS 0: Alex Bernier scored twice, Cassie Darrow added a goal and two assists and Caitlin Bucksbaum had two assists as the Yachtsmen (7-0-1) downed Wells (1-5-1) at Falmouth.

GREELY 3, YARMOUTH 0: Izzy Hutnak, Kristina Volta and Holly Rand scored the goals as the Rangers (5-3) shut out the Clippers (2-4-2) at Cumberland.

MORSE 5, MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 0: Brianna Williams directed a Sophie Sreden pass into the net with less than three minutes gone in the first half and the Shipbuilders (8-1-1) went on to beat the Huskies (1-8) at Bath.
