Field hockey roundup: Lakers collect a dramatic victory

YORK — Victoria Girardin scored with eight seconds left Tuesday as Lake Region remained perfect in field hockey with a 2-1 victory against York in a Western Maine Conference game.

After Lucy Fowler of Lake Region (7-0) scored eight minutes into the game, Taylor Simpson tied it for York (6-2) with nine minutes left in the half.

 

WAYNFLETE 5, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 2: Madison Pellow and Elizabeth Berthy scored two goals apiece as Waynflete (3-3) downed the Patriots (0-7) at Gray.

Haley Johnson also scored for the Flyers, who led 2-1 at halftime.

Sara Carder and Bri Fortin answered for Gray-New Gloucester.

 

FALMOUTH 2, GREELY 2: Mickey Richards had a goal and an assist for the Yachtsmen (3-3-1), and Mickey Richards had a goal and an assist for the Rangers (1-4-1) in a rain-shortened tie at Cumberland.

After Jessica Wilson started the scoring for Greely, Elle Fitzgerald tied it.

 

TRAIP ACADEMY 1, FREEPORT 0: Kalie Andrews scored off a corner from Caitlyn Vera as the Rangers (4-3) beat the Falcons (4-2) at Kittery.

Emily Bolton had five stops for the shutout. Rebecca Harrison made eight saves for Freeport.

 

BELFAST 3, MORSE 1: Maddy Cummings had two goals and an assist as the Lions (8-0) downed the Shipbuilders (0-7) at Bath.

Cummings started the scoring in the first half. Abby Moore answered for Morse before Cummings put Belfast back in front. McKenzie Thibodeau tacked added the third goal.

Biyanna Ringoes made 14 saves for Morse. Julia Ward finished with four for the Lions.

 

MT. ARARAT 1, OXFORD HILLS 0: Caitlin LaFountain scored from Mallory Nelson with 16:30 left as the Eagles (5-2) edged the Vikings (0-5-1) at Topsham.

Taylor Pare made four saves for the shutout. Abi Egan stopped 13 shots for Oxford Hills.

 

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 4, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Juliana Tardif had two goals and an assist to spark the Panthers (6-1) past the Hawks (1-6-1) at Yarmouth.

Marina Poole and Kayla Rose also scored.

Chloe Ronco had 10 saves for Sacopee.

 

WATERVILLE 8, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Jenna Gagnon had four goals as the Panthers (4-3) cruised past the Eagles (0-7) at Newcastle.

Jenna Nawfel added two goals and an assist, Kelsey Tortorella and Sage Dugay also scored, and Rachel Bergeron had an assist.

 

LEAVITT 1, NOKOMIS 0: Sadie Royer scored on a breakaway with 5:27 left as the Hornets (5-1) beat Nokomis (3-2-1) at Turner.

Sierra Santamango had 11 saves for Leavitt.

 

SKOWHEGAN 14, CONY 0: Makaela Michonski, Allison Lancaster and Sarah Finnemore each had three goals and an assist as the Indians (8-0) beat the Rams (2-4-1) at Augusta.

Holly Lupo added two goals for the Indians. Kevie Rodrigue had 33 saves for Cony.
