Local Baseball: Lavangie, Carey lead Lenders Network

The New Zealander races through Toronto for his third IndyCar victory in just seven days.

CUMBERLAND - Phil Lavangie pitched a three-hitter and John Carey reached base four times and drove in three runs to lead Lenders Network (7-3-1) to a 12-1 win over Yankee Ford in a Twilight League game Sunday at Twin Brook Field.

AERO HEATING 3, PATRIOT INSURANCE 2: Chris Cole singled in Alex Brown with the go-ahead run in the third inning and Aero Heating & Ventilating (4-6-1) held off Patriot Insurance (5-6) at Cumberland.

AMERICAN LEGION

SB SAVINGS, CUMBERLAND SPLIT: Tim Porter gave up four hits and an unearned run to lead Cumberland (9-4-2) in a 4-1 victory over Saco-Biddeford Savings (8-6-1) in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Westbrook.

In Game 1, Keenan Lowe's RBI single in the fifth put Westbrook ahead for good in a 9-6 win.

LIBBY-MITCHELL SWEEPS STANDISH: Joe Schnier singled, doubled and tripled to lead Libby-Mitchell (6-9) to a 10-0 win over Standish Post 128 (2-10) in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Scarborough. Libby-Mitchell won the second game 8-4.

JUNIOR LEGION

FAIRFIELD 8, CHASE CUSTOM HOMES 5: Joe LeClaire hit a two-run double in the fourth to put Fairfield (15-1) ahead for good against Chase Custom Homes (10-5) at Gorham.

SMITH-TOBEY 9, LIBBY-MITCHELL 8: Kevin Carter knocked in Dakota D'Orio in the bottom of the eighth to lift Smith-Tobey at Bath.

BABE RUTH

PORTLAND 9, COASTAL NORTH 1: James Sinclair drove in two runs on three hits to help Portland beat Coastal North in the 14-year-old Area 1 championship at Bath.
