The University of Maine football team will begin its 2012 season against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent, facing Boston College for the second time in six years.
The Black Bears will visit Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a game against the Eagles on Sept. 8. Boston College beat the Black Bears 22-0 in 2006.

Maine’s other games outside the Colonial Athletic Association are Sept. 15 at Bryant and Sept. 22 at home against Albany. The Black Bears open their league schedule Sept. 29 with a home game against Villanova.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
BOWDOIN 3, WILLIAMS 2: The Polar Bears (7-7-3, 5-4 NESCAC) scored three goals in the third period to defeat the Ephs (9-8-0, 5-4) at Brunswick.
Kayte Holtz scored to break a 1-1 tie and added an insurance goal. Kim Tess-Wanat assisted on both of Holtz’s goals after scoring the first Bowdoin goal.
SOUTHERN MAINE 2, SALVE REGINA 2: Liz Bergstrom made 30 saves as the Huskies (5-9-4, 5-4-2 ECAC) skated to a tie against Salve Regina (8-5-5, 4-4-3) at Middletown, R.I.
USM’s Kailey Bubier tied the game with a short-handed goal at 5:44 of the second period. Salve Regina regained the lead in the third period on a power play, but Erin Banfield answered with 3:32 left in regulation.
TRINITY 3, COLBY 0: Brianne Wheeler made 32 saves for the Mules (4-11-2, 1-9-1 NESCAC) in a loss to the Bantams at Hartford, Conn.
MEN’S HOCKEY
NORWICH 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Pier-Olivier Cotnoir scored twice to lead the Cadets (15-1-1, 10-1-0 ECAC East) over the Huskies (6-8-4, 4-5-2) in Northfield, Vt.
David Nies scored for the Huskies with 4:33 remaining, assisted by Jamie Osborne and Dan Rautenberg.
ST. MICHAEL’S 4, UNE 1: The Purple Knights (4-10-2, 2-8-1 ECAC) got two power-play goals and a short-handed tally to beat the Nor’easters (3-11-2, 1-10) at Burlington, Vt.
Brent Bourgeois scored UNE’s goal on a power play at 13:40 of the second period. Ian Edwards recorded 33 saves for the Nor’easters.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
(5) DUKE 81, CLEMSON 37: Tricia Liston scored 16 points and Elizabeth Williams added 14 to help the visiting Blue Devils remain perfect in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Duke (17-2, 8-0 ACC), which has 15 straight victories over Clemson, used a 15-2 run in the last five minutes of the opening half to gain control and continued the surge after the break.
