STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Keith Bilodeau pitched a seven-hitter as the University of Maine defeated Binghamton 4-3 Wednesday in the opening round of the America East Conference baseball tournament.

Bilodeau allowed two earned runs, walked one and struck out six while improving to 10-2 with his fifth complete game.

The second-seeded Black Bears (30-22) broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning when Michael Fransoso led off with a single to right field, moved to second on sacrifice by Joey Martin of Portland and scored on Tyler Patzalek’s single to center field.

Maine added a run in the eighth inning when Taylor Lewis tripled and scored on Joey Martin’s sacrifice fly.

Third-seeded Binghamton (21-27) rallied for a run in the ninth and had two on and two outs before Bilodeau got the final out.

The Black Bears face top-seeded Stony Brook at 3 p.m. today in a winners’ bracket game. 

STONY BROOK 14, ALBANY 2: No. 1 Stony Brook (42-10) scored seven times in the seventh inning and added three in the eighth to pull away from No. 4 Albany (19-30) in a first-round game at Stony Brook, N.Y.

Travis Jankowski had four hits and knocked in three runs for the Seawolves. Nick Tropeano allowed six hits in eight innings and struck out 12.
