Michael Lally made a hole-in-one on the 104-yard 13th hole at Fox Ridge Golf Club on May 3. Lally used a pitching wedge for the shot, which was witnessed by Bob Baum, Dick Hines and Sunny Begin.

 

Three Portland Boxing Club fighters won bouts during a fundraiser at Valley High School in Bingham. Joe Fitzpatrick, a 14-year-old junior novice middleweight, won a unanimous decision against Mike Berrio of South Boston. Open class light welterweight Casey Kramlich won a unanimous decision against Ricky Ford of Claremont, N.H. Novice welterweight Jayson Richter defeated Gordon Berry of Bingham and was voted the outstanding boxer of the evening.

 

Maine Roller Derby's all-star team, the Port Authorities, is ranked 24th in the nation in the most recent power rankings from Derby News Network.

The Port Authorities are also ranked No. 9 in the Eastern Region by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.

 

Several youth league bowlers from Vacationland Bowling Center brought home tournament awards this season. Kelsey St. Ours and Sean Doran cleaned house, taking the All Events titles for knocking down the most pins of the tournament season.

Sarah Choroszy, and St. Ours each won a girls' Division 3 singles tournament, bowling 471 and 486, respectively. Courtney Anderson finished first in the girls' Division 1 category with a score of 321.

Dani Boissonneault and St. Ours bowled a combined 937 to claim first place in the girls' Division 3 scratch doubles contest. Amber and Danielle Anderson took the top spot with a 1,471 for the girls' Division 2 handicap doubles tournament. Chris Gendron and Doran threw 962 to win the boys' Division 3 doubles competition.

For boys' Division 3 teams, Gendron, Zachary Cotsis, Matt Smith and Doran claimed first place, knocking down a total of 1,910 pins. In the mixed teams Division 3 finals, Gendron, Doran, St. Ours, and Choroszy threw a combined 1,921 for the top score.

 

Brendan Thomas of Standish and Francesca Spellman of Cumberland, members of the Cheverus class of 2007, were the 2011 male and female Student Service Award winners at Loyola University in Maryland.

The awards are presented annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to the university's athletic department.

Spellman assisted the department with athletic training and communications and was a pivotal part of the women's lacrosse staff as a four-year team manager.

Thomas was honored for his four-year contribution to the department's communications office. He worked at almost all Loyola athletic events and volunteered for many other tasks. He also worked in the athletic department as a freshman. He served as a resident assistant and participated in three service trips.
