Kat Pagano, a senior at Eastern Kentucky University, was named Ohio Valley Conference female athlete of the year by the league’s athletics directors and sports information directors.

Pagano, a Bonny Eagle High graduate from Hollis, was the conference female cross country athlete of the year and a first-team pick for the third consecutive season after winning the individual title in the conference championship meet. She also was co-winner of the conference female athlete of the year in indoor track and field after winning the 5,000 meters and 3,000 at the league championships.

Pagano won the 5,000 and 10,000 at the conference outdoor track and field championships this spring to finish her career with seven individual conference track titles overall.

 

Taylor Gorman, a graduate of North Yarmouth Academy, was named captain of the Brown University men’s soccer team for the 2011 season.

Ralph Carpenter of Falmouth will be a crew member on a boat called Crapshoot at the world championship regatta for the International Etchells Yacht Racing class, hosted June 3-11 by the San Diego Yacht Club.

Eighty-three teams representing 13 countries will compete in nearly identical 30-foot yachts. Carpenter will be the team tactician, and will trim the mainsail and spinnaker.

 

Corey Conner, a junior at the University of Maine, was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District I All-Academic first team. Conner, a nursing major, earned a 3.82 grade-point and was a second-team All-American with her 11th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA indoor track and field championships. She also placed 42nd at the NCAA cross country championships.

 

Geoff Fallon aced the 15th hole at Nonesuch River Golf Course in Scarborough on Friday. Fallon used a 9-iron for the 147-yard shot, which was witnessed by John Beatty, Corey Staples and Liam McCoy.

Gary Hebert aced the 15th hole at Biddeford-Saco Country Club on April 26. Cory Greenleaf witnessed the 9-iron shot.

 

Paul Robinson of Buxton had a double eagle on the 443-yard, par-5 14th hole at Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland on Sunday. Robinson used a 5-wood for his second shot. Gary Auger, Nick Kletti and Jason Dolley witnessed the event.

 

Jack Owens of Sanford aced the second hole at Nonesuch River Golf Club in Scarborough on May 30. Owens used an 8-iron for the 143-yard shot.

Ginny Pemberton of Scarborough aced the fourth hole at Nonesuch River Golf Club in Scarborough on May 29. Pemberton used a 7-iron for the 112-yard shot.

 

Susan Coward aced the 135-yard fifth hole at The Woodlands Club in Falmouth on May 30. Coward used a 5-wood for the shot, which was witnessed by Steve Coward.

 

Joe Jala of Windham recorded his third hole-in-one May 31 at Naples Country Club. Jala, 62, used a 6-iron to ace the 138-yard 11th hole. His playing partners were Ted Jala, Jim Pratt and Wayne Pratt.
