V-Tec Learning Center of South Portland won the Elite Division championship for the sixth straight year at the Dr. Noel Paradise Memorial Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge, held Sunday at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.

A record total of $28,149 was raised for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program by the largest field of teams in the event’s 18-year history. The tournament field was comprised of 40 co-ed teams of adults and six co-ed teams of middle school students.

K.L.R. (in memory of Kristin Lynn Ready) of Portland won the Just for Fun Division, and Oxford Hills won the Junior Swish-Out.

Rachel Hall of Cumberland and Tom Rabon of Turner won Maine’s Tenth Mountain Division junior cross-country championships at Black Mountain for the second straight year.

Hall, a freshman at Middlebury College, posted a time of 15 minutes, 41.0 seconds in the 5-kilometer classic race. Gould Academy’s Molly Siegel (16:53.8) placed second and Sadie James (17:08.2) of Mt. Abram High finished third.

Rabon, who attends Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont, won the boys’ 10K classic event in 29:13.4. He was followed by Sam Humphries (30:06.2) of Cumberland and Nathan Moreau (30:24.2) of Falmouth.

Brad Smith, a former athletic director at Bridgton Academy, received the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council’s Distinguished Service Award, presented annually to someone who has contributed significantly to New England independent school athletics and physical education through leadership, vision, enthusiasm and dedication. Smith is the first athletic director in Maine to receive the award.

Several members of Coastal Maine Aquatics placed in their age group and received trophies at the Swim Your Own Age meet in Westbrook. They included Ben Steinberg (age 7), Keegan McKenney (8), Brimwim Peabody (9), Catherine Henaire (10), Rohan Freedman (10), Hana Delaney (11), Molly MaWhinney (11), Sam Loring (12), Jacob Griffin (13) and Sarah Loring (14).

Several other CMA swimmers competed at the Cera Ve Invitational held at Rutgers University. This star-studded event featured several athletes with Olympic trials times. The following CMA athletes competed: Rhyan Cloutier (12), Evan Coleman (16), Amelia Deady (16), Colby Harvey (15), Hannah Homans (15), Harry Homans (11), Ana Neff-Jendrasko (12), and Emelia VonSaltza (15).
