Former Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals champion Henry Westphal of Portland was among six competitors who advanced to the state championships by winning their age division at the district competition held Sunday at Wells Junior High School.

The six district winners were: age 8-9 girls, Roxanne Sasse of Brunswick; 8-9 boys, Luke McNabb of Portland; 10-11 girls, Isabel Dawson of Portland; 10-11 boys, Henry Westphal of Portland; 12-13 girls, Anya Chase of Wells; and 12-13 boys, Mitchell Libby of Wells.
McNabb, Dawson and Westphal qualified for the district competition by placing first in their division at the Portland Elks contest held Jan. 6 at McAuley High.
Other Portland winners were: 8-9 girls, Kayle Magee of Portland; 12-13 girls, Lydia Giguere of Westbrook; and 12-13 boys, Tyree Bitjoka of South Portland.
At the Biddeford-Saco Elks competition held Jan. 6 at Saco Middle School, winners were: 8-9 boys, Cole Michaud of Saco; 10-11 girls, Amanda Bogardus of Saco; 10-11 boys, Alec McAlary of Saco; 12-13 girls, 12-13 girls, MacKenzie Basile of Saco; and 12-13 boys, Adam Lovejoy of Saco.
The state championships will be held Jan. 27 at Bangor High.
