KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Senior Joey Diamond tipped in Ben Hutton's shot from the blue line with 10:04 remaining to give the Maine men's hockey team a 4-3 win over Army in Saturday's consolation game of the Ice Breaker Tournament at Kansas City, Mo.
Diamond's winner came just 55 seconds after Josh Richards' goal had pulled the Black Knights even.
Army (0-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first 23 minutes, but Maine (1-2) rallied with goals from Mark Anthoine, Klas Leidermark and Stu Higgins in the final nine minutes of the second.
Matt Morris, Maine's freshman goalie, finished with 21 saves to earn his first win.
MEN'S SOCCER
UMASS-DARTMOUTH 4, USM 3: Victor Ferreira scored his third goal of the match 1:10 into overtime to give UMass-Dartmouth (10-3, 5-0 Little East) a victory over the Huskies (4-10, 1-4) in Gorham.
The teams were tied 2-2 at the half, as USM tallies by Mazen Aljari and Ahmed Ben Afif offset Ferreira's first two goals.
Aljari and Ben Afif combined to give the Huskies their only lead of the match, with Aljari slipping a shot by UMD's Michael Phelan seven minutes into the second half.
Turner was credited with two saves for USM.
BATES 0, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 0: Joe Maffly-Kipp made eight saves for Bates (2-7-2, 0-6-2 NESCAC) to register his first collegiate shutout, and Casey Marini of Connecticut College (3-2-6, 0-2-6) had four saves as neither team scored at Lewiston.
Maffly-Kipp stopped a penalty kick with 5:25 left in regulation to preserve the tie.
BOWDOIN 2, HAMILTON 2: Eric Goitia converted a penalty kick with 6.4 seconds left in regulation to pull the Polar Bears (7-2-2, 3-2-2 NESCAC) even with the Continentals (3-6-2, 1-5-2) at Clinton, N.Y.
Bowdoin's Michael Gale and Hamilton's John McGuinnis scored first-half goals.
AMHERST 2, COLBY 0: Brian Morgan scored three minutes in and Julien Aoyama scored with less than three minutes remaining to give the Lord Jeffs (10-0-1, 5-0-1 NESCAC) a win over the Mules (3-6-2, 0-5-2) at Amherst.
NICHOLS 1, UNE 0: Fred Willard scored midway through the second half and Alex Geas made four saves to steer the Bison (10-5, 4-2 Commonwealth Coast) past the Nor'easters (6-8, 2-4) at Biddeford.
Aidan McParland stopped six shots for UNE.
ST. JOSEPH'S 2, RIVIER 1: Zach Johnson scored with 2:14 left in the second overtime to lift the Monks (8-6-2, 5-3-1 GNAC) over the Raiders (0-11-1, 0-7-1) at Nashua, N.H.
Alex Day gave St. Joseph's the early lead, but Ed Soucie evened it nine minutes later.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
UMASS-DARTMOUTH 1, USM 0: Kathleen Landers beat Southern Maine goalie Katie Cobb with three minutes left in regulation as the Corsairs (10-2-2, 4-1 Little East) edged the Huskies (2-11, 1-4) in North Dartmouth, Mass.
Cobb had four saves.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1, NICHOLS 0: Ellie Arsenault scored from Katy Marshall less than four minutes into overtime to lift the Nor'easters (6-9, 4-2 Commonwealth Coast) over the Bison (3-9-2, 0-6) at Biddeford.
Samantha Guyette made three saves for her third shutout.
BOWDOIN 1, HAMILTON 0: Kiersten Turner scored from Molly Popolizio in the 23rd minute and Bridget McCarthy made four saves as the Polar Bears (9-2, 5-2 NESCAC) shut out the Continentals (7-3-1, 4-3-1) at Clinton, N.Y.
AMHERST 4, COLBY 0: The Lord Jeffs (8-1-1, 5-1-1 NESCAC) took control early on the way to a win over Colby (7-4, 3-4) at Amherst, Mass.
Emily Brook and Jayde Bennett combined for seven saves for Colby.
CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 2, BATES 1: Grace Bilodeau scored on a cross from Rebecca Raymond with 3:26 left in the second overtime, lifting Connecticut College (4-6-2, 2-6 NESCAC) to a win over the Bobcats (3-7-1, 1-6-1) at Lewiston.
