ORONO – Gerald McLemore scored 15 points, Terrance Mitchell added 14 and Murphy Burnatowski had 13 as Maine defeated winless Colgate 78-57 on Sunday.

The Black Bears (5-5) led 34-11 with 6:26 remaining in the opening half after making their first six 3-point attempts.

Mitchell went 4 for 4 and McLemore was 2 for 4 on 3-point attempts in the first half as Maine led 40-21 at the break.

The Raiders (0-9) closed the gap to 10, 42-32, with 13:03 left to play, but a quick layup from Troy Barnies and McLemore’s fifth 3-pointer of the game extended Maine’s lead to 15.

Mitchell, McLemore and Burnatowski combined to go 11 of 18 from 3-point range.

Pat Moore scored 13 points for Colgate.

(24) NOTRE DAME 88, STONY BROOK 62: Tim Abromaitis scored 22 points to lead the Irish (10-1) past the Seawolves (4-6) in South Bend, Ind.

Carleton Scott made all eight of his shots and had 20 points for Notre Dame.

Marcus Rouse led Stony Brook with 15.

Tom Knight of Dirigo High played four minutes for Notre Dame, collecting one rebound.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

(6) TENNESSEE 82, (3) STANFORD 72: Meighan Simmons scored 23 points, including a 3-pointer to force overtime, and the Volunteers (10-2) used free throws to pull away from the Cardinal (6-2) in Knoxville, Tenn.

(8) TEXAS A&M 79, RUTGERS 50: Danielle Adams had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Sydney Carter added 18 points and the Aggies (9-1) rolled past the Scarlet Knights (7-5) in the Maggie Dixon Classic in New York.

Erica Wheeler scored 13 points for Rutgers and April Sykes had 10.

(18) ST. JOHN’S 56, UC SANTA BARBARA 47: Shenneika Smith scored 15 points and Sky Lindsay added a season-high 13 to lead the Red Storm (10-1), who were playing the Gauchos (5-6) without star forward Da’Shena Stevens in New York.

(20) GEORGETOWN 72, MISSOURI STATE 59: Sugar Rodgers shook off early foul trouble to score 18 of her 20 points in the second half, helping the Hoyas (9-3) beat the Bears (7-3) in Washington.

(25) BOSTON COLLEGE 85, UNC-WILMINGTON 55: Kerri Shields scored eight of her 18 points during a 23-0 run to close the first half as the Eagles (11-0) beat the Seahawks (6-3) in Boston to extend their best start.

Brittany Blackwell led UNC-Wilmington with 15 points and seven rebounds in schools’ the first meeting.
